Black Country Curios...historical odds and ends!

Postby Carol » Fri Dec 19, 2008 5:04 pm

I've just been reading a book on odd things in Cornwall. It would be great to have some "odd bits " included here for the Black Country, not necessarily worthy of a day trip but of peculiar historic interest. I'm thinking of things like milestones, turnpike houses, pumps, water troughs, old post boxes, remains of forges, wall plaques, old chimneys- curios of passing interest but that only the locals know about -or not as the case may be. Most people walk round with their eyes shut.

My only suggestion is a strange forge like feature situated next to St Johns (?) church is Church Lane, Tipton- the one that used to be St Martins before it relocated. Perhaps this needs a section of it's own- and help from the locals or ex pats!

Something like this? Although I was sent this photo to add to the gallery, I don't know any more details.
Can anyone enlighten us?

Perfect Mallosa, something you wouldn't necessarily take a day off work to go and visit but well worth knowing about. Great photo too.
