Hi Val - I can see a few mentions of it on the web, but no address. There is an indication that it might have been where Sainsbury's is now. The PRs are in Sandwell Archives, it might be worthwhile giving them a call.

As Antie Em says there are mentions of it on the web but no exact location.
Oldbury was full of these small chapels and was well known as a town for non-conformists.
I remember The Ebenezer Chapel in Hunt Street and The Tabernacle close to where Sainsbury's is now. There were one or two in Churchbridge. One oppostite Light Metal Forgings and Good Shepherd School also had a church attached to the school.
Albert Street,Queen Street,New Meeting Place back of the post office also had a few chapels.
Val,Sandwell Archives is where you need to go unless of course there's someone on here who knows the location.

It is all a bit confusing!

http://www.blackcountry-unitarians.org. ... ldbury.php
It says there (I think) that the old dissenting chapel was in the Market Place but was pulled down in 1844/5. But by then the Market Place property was I think St Nicholas which was replaced by Christchurch.

"The Cenotaph in Oldbury Market square marks the approximate site of the chapel and was erected outside the graveyard which was retained after St Nicholas was demolished about 1845. St Nicholas is often, but incorrectly, referred to as Christchurch Oldbury. The latter was not dedicated until about 1844." http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/t ... 1012180286

I think the old dissenting chapel was therefore in the Market Place (where the Cenotaph is) until 1709ish, then a new chapel was erected on land given by John Turton http://www.melocki.org.uk/salop/Oldbury ... nting.html

"The chapel at Unity Place, Birmingham Street was built in 1806, and was of red brick with blue brick detailing. The interior was altered in 1862 and 1899, but on classical rather than Gothic lines." http://www.blackcountry-unitarians.org.uk/history.php

"The Old Dissenting Chapel which was known as the Unitarian for the last 150 years of it's life was demolished aprox. 15 years ago & replaced by a block of flats. It stood on the corners of Unity Place & Birmingham Street, directly opposite Barclays Bank. It was founded aprox. 1705." http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/t ... 1220456799

Not totally sure where it was 1709-1806, Unity Place too maybe? Linell might know.

Thanks for posting that link Kate:-

The Old Dissenting Chapel which was known as the Unitarian for the last 150
years of it's life was demolished aprox. 15 years ago & replaced by a block
of flats. It stood on the corners of Unity Place & Birmingham Street,
directly opposite Barclays Bank. It was founded aprox. 1705.

That is all I know about the Dissenting Chapel. But there is a series of Books 'Black Country Chapels' will have a look and see if it is in there.
