Penncricket Lane ,Rowley Regis

Postby 646abs » Wed Mar 10, 2021 6:45 pm

Hello, and pleased to be registered. My main interest is Smith/Burns of Wolverhampton and unsurprisingly further afield and if I can be help, please ask.

The bit of help I am looking for concerns my wife's parents,Wilfred and Lydia Clarke who lived at Wharf House, Penncricket Lane, Blackheath. On her father's death certificate,1951,this was the qouted address.,his occupation Canal Ganger. When we married in 1970,we lived just off Penncricket Lane and we never saw evidence of a canal area or a building there. I am assuming the canal line to have followed on from the nearby Titford Junction.

Any one who can help I will be grateful to.

I wonder if this is it? https://maps.nls.uk/view/101585842
There is a "W" just above the t of Penncricket Lane, and W can stand for Wharf https://maps.nls.uk/os/abbrev/w.html so it could be that black square.

I came across this too http://www.historyofoldbury.co.uk/WHITE ... ARM%20.pdf and it mentions wharves in that area, though not yours I think, one next to Swan Bridge (p. 19) which would be same bit of canal :-)
