A visit to Dudley Town Centre

Postby mallosa » Thu Oct 26, 2017 11:28 pm

It's a bit quiet in here at the moment so thought I'd add a few photos. Decided to venture out of Brum today to visit Dudley (click on photo to enlarge)

Nice.

An architect friend once took me down Oxford Street and showed me how stunning the buildings are if you lift your eyes from the shop fronts that make our high streets all look the same and actually look at the floors above where the original architecture is still visible. Having once been encouraged I now try to do it in every place I go and there are still wonderful buildings out there despite the ravages of commerce and developers.
I was sitting in a restaurant in Bath a couple of days ago and I noticed a lovely Georgian doorway opposite with beautiful filigreed glass surround sandwiched between two garish, well known, high street brands. I was amazed it had hardly been defaced at all, just a bit of grafitti and a modern entry system keypad for the flats above.
Currently investigating the Hillmans of Sussex.

Nice San. My old stomping ground hasn't changed much and I love the fountain in the market place which looks much better now it's cleaned up.

Sorry for my late reply Rob. just been watching The Apprentice!
We caught the 126 from the back of the Rag Market. Didn't get time to visit the castle perhaps cos The Griffin got in the way, well it was thirsty work all that walking around!
Didn't visit Duncan's grave either :(
What I did find really interesting though was, so many road names that I have come across whilst searching for mine and other peoples ancestors, are still there

I've seen that one before San, beautiful old buildings. I wonder what's going to happen to the old Museum?

I knew that the exhibitions were being moved to Dudley Archives, but does anybody know if a decision has been made about what is to become of the Museum building?

It is nice to see them Mally. Not being from the area is good to see.It looks similar to the North East where I was born the old buildings etc but they are sadly being knocked down. Like SRD said I always look above, or count the windows, see what has been bricked up for the window tax, the style of houses railway age, miners and farmers labourers, how tall the doors are. Or more like how low the doors were!
Thank you.
