Joan would be Bate not Bates and 1917 too early . She was a little older than Dad who was born 1926. Halesowen not right either

Sure to be Blackheath or Old Hill or very close by

Hi NL, Yes that seems very promising. Noticed in your post 2 above you have said Staffs-don't forget Blackheath came under Worcs.

here we are it came under Rowley Regis
which was staffs
"Blackheath was part of the borough of Rowley Regis until 1966, when it became part of the county borough of Warley. Since 1974 it was formed part of the metropolitan borough of Sandwell"
wikki

rowley was split betw Dudley regis district and Staffs...so some civil regis you get from Sandwell and some from Dudley depending of the area in RRegis

from Genuki
Hamlets in the parish are Blackheath, Corngreaves, Cradley Heath, Gosty Hill, Haden Cross, Haden Hill, Hayseech, Knoll, Lye Cross, Newtown, Oakum, Old Hill, Portway, Reddal Hill, Slack Hillock, Tipety Green, Tividale, Turner's Hill, Windmill End and Whiteheath Gate "

It gets very confusing- the records for Blackheath as distinct from Rowley Regis are held at the Worcs record office. I believe the postal address when Dad was little for Blackheath was Halesowen Worcs. I think this lasted until it became West Midlands. Rowley Regis village was always Staffs. The registration district as you say came under Rowley regis and later Sandwell.

Here we go I knew I had asked this of Dudley Regis office but this is for Civil regis info and who would hold it so not sure if that is different from the Postal info think it maybe

Dudley council now Covers the following areas: for certs
Stourbridge
Brierley Hill
Halesowen
Blackheath (small part)
Tipton (small part Princes End part)
Kingswinford
Quarry Bank
Dudley Centre
Sedgley
Cradley (small part)
Poss Netherton area
poss some Rowley Regis

and this was from Sandwell

"We cover the lion's share of Rowley Regis, Cradley Heath and Old
Hill, which include Redall Hill, Tibbetts Gardens and part of Corngreaves
Road, all separate areas but under the overall banner of Rowley Regis
which was a sub district of Dudley, however any overlaps are covered by
both Stourbridge and Dudley."

sorry we have gone off thread but we can put this somewhere to help others and I will delete the posts to get back on the thread later
