Ah, I think that explains it, Jimmy. I was thinking the other way round, that maybe Eliza took her stepfather's name, but found Ann & Edwin still together all the way through the census. Might as well post them in case it's useful ...

1841 - Two Gates, Cradley
Edwin Cox 30 Grinder
Ann Cox 25
Eliza Cox 6
Charles Cox 4
Thos Cox 1

Lotta Coxes on this page. Looks like father, Daniel, mother, Phebe, and several brothers.

Edwin Cox 41 Gun Barrel Grinder b. Worcs., Cradley
Ann Cox 37 Nailor b. Worcs., Hasbury

Thos Cox 12 Gun Barrel Grinder b. Worcs., Cradley
Willm Cox 9 b. Worcs., Cradley
Sarah Cox 6 b. Worcs., Cradley
Thos Cox (should be Simeon?) 3 b. Worcs., Cradley

Hi all, Joseph Parish and Sarah Bagley are all ready on BCC, don't think Eliza is on there? These families all lived in the Two Gates/Windmill Hill area of Cradley, so it's a forgone conclusion that they all married into each others families, thanks Jimmy from linell.

Ok so are we saying that Eliza is the dau of Edwin/Edward Cox?
and hence he is down as father on marriage certif of dau?
But she was born before they married so she was called Parish on official docs ie bapt and marriage certif?

:?

do we put her down as Cox or Parish?
