Yes, I think 2 Benjamins ...

This looks like Nancy Hardiman remarries after Benjamin’s death pre-1841. Her second husband appears to be Joseph FOWLER. Benjamin not present and Nancy remarried, so can’t be the same Benjamin Brittell with Susana in the 1841 that FS found.

1841 - Pare (Pear) Tree St., Rowley Regis
Joseph Fowler 35 Coal Miner N b. 1806
Nancy Fowler 20 (indistinct) N b. 1821 or if age is 40 - 1801
Nancy Brittle 15 Y b. 1826
Lucy Brittle 14 Y b. 1827
Meria Brittle 12 Y b. 1829
Mary Brittle 7 Y b. 1834
Benjamin Brittle 6 Y b. 1835
Josiah Brittle 3 Y b. 1838
Fanny Brittle 9 Mo Y b. 1840
Hannah Fowler 20 N b. 1821

It looks like Benjamin would have to have died 1840ish by date of Fanny’s birth.

FreeBMD Marriage
Nancy Brettell 1841 Stourbridge Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands, Worcestershire
Joseph Fowler 1841 Stourbridge Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands, Worcestershire

And a 3rd marriage and widowhood for Nancy??? (Can’t find the marriage, though)

1851 - Back of Garratts Lane, Rowley Regis

Nancy Tromans Head W 50 Nailmaker b. Worcs., Halesowen
Mary A Brettle Daur U 20 Nailmaker b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
Benjamin Brettle Son U 16 Coalminer b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
Josiah Brettle Son U 12 Chainmaker b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
Maria Cooper (nee Brettell?) Lodger M 23 Chainmaker b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
Timothy Cooper Son 5 b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
Hannah Cooper Daur 3 b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
Thomas Cooper 2 b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
Mary A Brettle Lodger 18 U Nailmaker b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
Benjamin Brettle Son 2 b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
John Brettle Son 1 Mo b. Staffs., Rowley Regis

It appears that Mary Ann Brettle, lodger, aged 18 unmarried, is the mother of 2 illeitimate children and there is another Mary Ann aged 20, also unmarried, as Daughter of Nancy. Did they put Mary Ann down twice?
Some mistakes are too much fun
to only make once.

That looks good di!

So we know that Benjamin died before 1841.-prob 1840s

So how do we know he married Susannah Grainger before?
Nancy is b abt 1801.
Charles has parents Nathan Brettell and Obediance Tay but no evidence that they had a son Benjamin.
We need to prove that Benj and Charles are bros
that Benj married Susannah Grainger and then married Nancy Hardiman.

here is the marriage I will look it up

Hi all, I checked the Marriage at Halesowen 23.8.1818 for Benjamin Brettell and Nancy Hardman, the entry says Benj was a Widower and that Nancy was a spinster married with parents consent, the witnesses were Wm and Lucy Hardman. The previous Marriage for Benjamin Brettell and Susannah Grainger 20.11.1796 St Thomas could be a different Benjamin?? Benjamin and Susannah had children up to 1806 according to the IGI so we have a gap from 1806 to 1818, which seems a long one for that time period, they usually Married again fairly quickly. There's a death for a Benjamin Brittle 1839 Dudley Registration District. There's not a lot to connect Benjamin to the Islington Brettells, the only connection I can find is that Charles Brettell born 1776 Married an Elizabeth Hardman born Halesowen 1777, and Benjamin Married Nancy Hardman born about 1800 Halesowen. Do we have a DOB for Nancy? Charles's father I think was Nathan and Benjamin's could have been John, will see if Nathan had a brother John. linell.

Hi NL, Charles born 1776 who Married Elizabeth Hardman is already on BCC, this line connects to me. I also added the Marriage details of Benjamin to Nancy Hardman. Can we find the children of Benjamin and Nancy, are they in Halesowen, do they have children called Nathan or Charles? I think we should dig round a bit more, what does everyone else think? Best Wishes from linell.

Hi all, just to give you an update on what I have and haven't found. Can't find Benjamin Brettel father or the son born 1834 in 1841. I think the family of Joseph Fowler and wife Nancy nee Hardman with son Benjamin Brittle aged 6 is the right family, living in RR. So yes this proves that Benjamin Snr is dead by 1841. I have been trawling the Halesowen Parish Register for the Brettell family, the family of Nathan and Charles is all consistent, they all have children of those names in each generation, they seem to live and die in the Borough. Did find the Baptism of Benjamin 10.3.1782 Halesowen to John and Joan Brettel, can't find a Marriage for them. There's nothing to tie Benjamin to the Nathan and Charles Brettel family in Halesowen, except db says he is in Islington in the 1835 Trade Directory, he is not there in 1841, could be a different Benjamin?? I also checked the Burials for a Benjamin Brettell after his baptism in 1782, there wasn't a burial for a Benjamin Brettel until 1817 at Halesowen, that was an Infant aged 2, so it does not look as though Benjamin born 1782 died young, so it could well be him that went on to Marry Nancy Hardman in 1818. Hardman is definitely a local name there were lots of them in the Halesowen Parish Register. Found a Burial for Joan Brettel, Benjamin's mother in 1808. Hope this all makes sense, needed to put it all down on paper :? linell.
