How do you find accurate dates pre 1837, I have just tried to order a birth cert for around 1825 and the website said it can't be before 1837.

Hi Dan that is correct pre sept? 1837 pre civil registration.
So you need to work via the IGI and other sites for bapt, marriage and burial info.
Which is quite good once you get used to what and where!
anything you need post and if we can help we will

Ok that info you have is from this site....

http://www.wolverhamptonhistory.org.uk/ ... ilyhistory

the IGI only has certain years for Parish records and certain churches.
This site here.....Hugh Wallis is very useful for seeing what years and churches are on the IGI although we have found some not on this site but on the IGI.

The entry you want would be a bapt entry so you can obtain a photocopy by contacting Wolverhampton archives - not sure of the charges.

Have a look at the useful links section but these other links may help too.
http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/Search.pl
http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk/
http://uk-transcriptions.accessgenealogy.com/Worcs..htm
http://www.bmsgh.org/bookshop/main.html

but really it is a case of using the archives if you cant find info via other sources.
That is why I say post a name and area you cant find info on and what you want and we can guide you.
Hope that helps
