Fathers name differs from what we have on connections so what do we think?

I think it is possibly wrong -James William Ruston as father of Robs Eliza J Ruston.

There is in 1901 a Joseph Ruston with wife Sarah E living Rowley Regis b abt 1877
he is a wrought iron gas fitting maker!
son Alfred AL Ruston age 1 no Eliza J Ruston.

There is that Lizzie in 1901 with a James William Ruston
and there is that Birth regis in 1897 Sedgley...might have to send off for that cert Rob.

Rob you said somat about living with the Woodwards when was that?
and Who? cos there is that Eliza J Woodward living with Joseph Woodward and Maria Ruston that was found prev by Jimmy.....(see Woodward thread)

Notice what Frank and Eliza call their Eldest...Joseph...

How did you find that lot on Ancestry re a street? did you go to County- then Rowley Regis but how did you know which district to put in? dont say you went thru all of em!

I think the fact that she calls her eldest Joseph has to tell us something. But where is Eliza J Ruston in 1901.
The one with James William Ruston and Polly Cole is a Lizzie and i think that there is a Lizzie b abt that time.

Would there be one for 1920
When were women on them?
are they by street?
are they sent every year?

I wonder if that name Ruston has been put down incorrectly on the marriage and should be Joseph William Woodward.

I think that possibly the correct parents are that Joseph Woodward and Maria Ruston.
They marry Sept qtr and Eliza is born Jun qtr so she would be regis as a Ruston.

There is that Eliza Jane on 1901 census and interestingly boarding with some Parkes one of which is called Frederick again a name that Eliza calls her kid.

The 2 witnesses marry....be interesting to see that father is a Joseph William Woodward! so will look it up!

I think that if that marriage has father as a Joseph William Woodward a gas producer you have your answer.
But I would send for that birth Certif to be sure for Eliza Jane Ruston.

Well! this gets really confusing!!

I have done the marriage look up for Lily May Woodward and Horace Hill the 2 Witnesses at Eliza Jane Ruston and Frank Williams marriage.
The father is a Joseph Woodward....but the address of Lily is the same as for Eliza J Ruston ie 31 Hackett St.

So it does look like perhaps Joseph William Ruston was the father of Eliza J Ruston. But I do not think that James William Ruston and Polly Cole who Rob has currently as the parents, are Elizas. They have that Lizzie in 1901 and I think that for some reason Eliza J Ruston has been brought up be Joseph Woodward and his wife unknown?
There is a birth regis for a Lizzie Ruston in 1897 and an Eliza J Ruston in 1897.

So who is this Joseph Woodward?
Who is Joseph William Ruston?

I wonder if that family Jimmy found in 1901 is the family I feel it may well be...there is a Hannah there and as you see below, a Hannah is a witness at Lily mays wedding.

Any ideas guys???

Ok well have brought this back as I have just received in the post the Lily May Woodward Birth certif I ordered

WITH MY OWN MONEY ROB!!!

and guess what! the mother is a Maria Ruston

So I know you have sent off for that Eliza j Ruston 1897 Sedgley so that will be very interesting.

this all starts to make sense now ...

So in 1901 Joseph Woodward and Maria Woodward nee Ruston are with dau Eliza J Woodward (I think your Ruston) and Hannah Woodward.

Eliza is born before the marriage in 1897 so registered as a Ruston.
Why the father is down on the marriage of Eliza J Ruston as Joseph William Ruston....no idea ...maybe that was the fathers name, maybe it was her fathers name and put there to gain some "face"....


So birth cert details
24th May 1901 Cross st
Lily May Woodward
father Joseph Woodward- rivet maker
mother Maria Woodward formally Ruston
X of Maria Woodward mother cross st Black heath....

So can we find more info now on this maria Ruston please and parents



oh and 31 Hackett st is where Lily may was living at marriage and where Eliza J Ruston was living at marriage and at 31 hackett st in the Rates book of Rowley Regis in 1920 Joseph Woodward was the occupier...

so that does it for me...Eliza J Ruston yours! is the dau of Maria Woodward (nee Ruston)
either with no known father
or
with a joseph William Ruston.
but mother is maria and brought up as a Woodward!
