*ARC TBC*1851 St Liger, Ledger, Leger, Legar Staffordshire

Postby Robyn » Mon Jul 25, 2022 2:33 pm

I hope I'm posting this request in the right area.

The name I'm searching for is Barry St Liger born in Scotland and lived in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire. St. Ledger is the correct spelling but I know it has been misspelt a number of ways. In 1851 his son Hays St Liger is in the workhouse but where is Barry his father?

Barry St Ledger b. 1790-1794 Scotland and his wife Eunice/Unice Musgrove (b.1802-1806 in Staffordshire, and died 1847) I'm also searching for their marriage date.

Help is greatly appreciated.

Musgrave or Musgrove - Eunice

Postby Robyn » Tue Jul 26, 2022 5:20 am

I need help please searching for Eunice Musgrave (Musgrove, Moregrove) born between 1802 -1806 in Wolverhampton & Seisdon, Staffordshire. I know nothing about her parents. Baptism of her children also spell the name as Unice Musgrove. She was married to Barry St Ledger also spelt as St Liger, St Leger.
Eunice St Leger died in 1847 Wolverhampton.
Thank you in advance.

The 1841 entry seems to indicate that Eunice was not born in Staffordshire - she could have been from anywhere really.

She and Barry seem to have moved around a lot, with the earliest baptism I see:

Dec 12 1834 Aberystwyth St Michael
Hayes son of Barry and Eunice St Leger Book binder

then a Jane bapt in Hereford in 1837, before they seem to settle in Wolverhampton.

There are also earlier baptisms in and around London father Barry a bookbinder, but mother is Sarah. Was that an earlier marriage or someone else?

It's strange this?
Did you buy her death certificate to see who informed of her death? Might help a little if you haven't?

Hello Gardener,

Thank you for the searches and providing the information. The family certainly did seem get around. I have no idea if Barry was married before Eunice.

Would you provide me with the earlier baptism's please in and around London? With Barry and Sarah parents?

Hayes born/baptised in Aberystwyth in 1834 must have died. There was another son named Hayes born in 1843 in Staffordshire and he is my ancestor. He married Sarah Andrews in 1867.

Thank you so much for your help.

Thank you Jimmy,

That's a great help to me providing the baptism of Eunice and her parents marriage. It's pushed me on in my searches. I see the name is spelt as Musgrave and Musgrove.

I'll take a look at Family Search.

Thank you.

Hello Grangers 14,

I haven't purchased the death certificate of Eunice. I looked on Freebmd and worked out her d.o.b from the 1847 Wolverhampton entry.

The 20th May 1841 is the baptism of their son Barry (I think) shown as Barnett in the 1841 census.

The son Hayes born in 1843 is correct. They also had a son named Hayes born in 1834 in Aberystwyth and I think he died.

I was unaware of Elizabeth 1846? I knew of Elizabeth St Leger baptised in 1839 parents Barry and Unice.

I also have no idea who the Myatt family are in the 1841 Census.

Thank you so much for providing me with this info.

We can try and chip away?
So Barry St Ledger or variations of the name...
1841. North Street, Wolverhampton.
James Myatt, 30,
Mary Myatt, 30,
Frances Myatt, 7,
Daniel Myatt, 4,
Berry St Ledger, 47, Bookbinder, Scotland
Eunice St Ledger, 35,
Eunace St Ledger, 8,
Barnett? St Ledger, 1 m, born in County

All others not born in County

Where did he go? Did he pass away? Is that why Hayes is in the workhouse? After his mothers death? Where are the other children?
