I am researching a family that are Beale Surname in 1841 to 1871 Census and then parents and children change to Godson from 1871 onwards, They start off in Shipston on Stour and end up in Smethwick and Dudley
Children of Beale parents are registered as Godson from 1855 onwards.
I will put on bcc with notes and then come back to this thread to see if anyone can see reason.
Plot thickens in 1884 as one of Beale/Godson children marries a Sarah Cordreay father Richard Cordreay but she is not Cordreay but Sarah Pursell father Richard Pursell as evidenced by Census records
Only Jimmy can sort this out !!!

I have added all but cannot see reason for change of name from Beale to Godson and why Sarah Purcell called herself Sarah Cordeay and her father Richard Purcell Bricklayer as Richard Cordeay Bricklayer
Usual reasons were a) criminal activity b) inheritance reasons c) slight phonetic change of name but none count in this instance
