hi indigogirl. Haven't been on this site for a week as I've spent a lot of time at R. Hall hospital visiting my mom. I have a Raycord/Record and Smarts in my tree. In fact if they are the same lot of Smarts I have a wonderful family photo taken c1902 at Cradley Heath with my 2xgt gd father Eli Foley. John Henry Raycord 1869 married Amelia Probert.

Just had a look in my tree and I have Sarah Ann Raycord b1843 daughter of John (born Quinton 1824) and Mary née Pearson. Could she be yours? Don't have a partner for her.7 other sibs including John Henry. She was the eldest and he the youngest as far as I know.

Also got a Daniel Woodhall c1839 who married Sarah Ann Foley(my gt gd aunt) in 1885. He was her 2nd husband, the first being Samuel Smart in 1868.

What a great response from everyone. Thanks.

I'm going to take a little time to read, digest and consult my information before I reply

silver surfer- Sarah Ann is my gg grandmother (m Joseph Smart b1848) They moved to London between 1881-91. I'd love to see the photo!

What a great start!

The census records linell found are the ones I have.

I'm feeling a bit guilty I wasn't around to say I knew there was (at least) 2 James Smarts in the same place at the same time - the other obvious one is the one married to Phebe Darby.

The Elizabeth isn't a transcription error in 1861 - the record says Elizth. I have wondered if this was actually her name and she took Kerenhappuch as she liked it. The name recurs throughout branches of the family. My ggmother was a Keren as was one of her daughters.

I whittled down the following from the IGI bapts

BAPTISMS _IGI
Stafford
KERRENHAPPUCH CARTWRIGHT
Christening:
21 NOV 1813 Brierley Hill, Stafford, England
Parents:
Father: JOB CARTWRIGHT Family
Mother: ANNE

Or

KERENHAPPUCH RILEY
Christening:
29 AUG 1813 Saint Marys, Handsworth, Stafford, England
Parents:
Father: JOHN RILEY Family
Mother: JEMIMA
Source Information:
C098671 1805 - 1825 0426554

or

Worcester:
KERENAPHUCK WILLETTS
Christening:
18 APR 1813 Saint Thomas, Dudley, Worcester, England
Parents:
Father: EDWD. WILLETTS Family
Mother: HANNAH
Source Information:
C040143 1813 - 1820

(I ruled out Keranhappuch Steventon as she married some one else)

So the Jemima baptism means the RILEY is the most likely?!

peterd - Thanks for correcting Lavinia for me. Always obvious after the event. You are quite right - 2 of her brothers are living in the same street as their parents. I'm still looking at all the other information you provided. Thanks again
and
mallosa- thanks for the Census records- the mistrans of her name as Levina probably didn't help my search at the time.

For completeness Kerenhappuch died 1890
but James can be found in 1901 Class: RG12; Piece: 2282; Folio 107; Page 46;
Living with sons (William)Edward and Daniel and family

I also have this Witness information (provided by someone else)

WILLIAM GRIFFITHS born about 1820, married
PHEBE SMART - daughter of Joseph and Mary SMART from
Darby End, at St Thomas' Church, Dudley, on 22nd
August 1841. The witnesses were James Smart and
Karenhappuch* Smart.

Thanks all.

So....amongst all the extensive searching did anyone turn up a marriage??
