*Look ups done* -Hadley family from Rowley Regis

Postby apowell » Tue Feb 03, 2009 11:49 am

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could help me expand my search on my Hadley ancestors because I'm well and truly :? .

I have managed to trace my Great Great Great Grandfather William Hadley born abt 1826 Rowley Regis who married Harriet born abt 1827 Halesowen. I know William's mother was Sarah Hadley born abt 1782 Rowley Regis but she is a widow on the 1841 census so no idea who her husband was. William is living with his mother and a Benjamin born abt 1829 Rowley Regis on the 1841 census.

I can't find the following:

William and Harriet marriage date, place and Harriet's surname but I think they would have been married from 1842-1846 prob' St Giles church Rowley Regis (William and Harriet's first born Joseph born Rowley Regis abt 1847).

I've no idea who William's father was or any of his siblings (except Benjamin).

I'm pretty certain the records would be held at St Giles church in Rowley Regis because on the 1841 census they were living near Mincing Lane which is situated in Rowley Regis village near St Gile's church.

I have found this information from the census but I'm :?: what to do next.

Does anyone have information on parish births marriages and deaths at St Giles church in Rowley Regis prior 1837.

It would be fantastic if anyone could help me.

Kind regards
Adrian

we have the records some of us or access to them but need the year, day and church plus name to go straight to it

any clues on the census in 1841 or after re inlaws etc
:?

Adrian you could always send off for the birth certif for one of Williams kids and it will have the mothers maiden name on.
Then that would help with if it is the correct marriage

Hi,

I have also found William Hadley on the 1851 census (living near Waterfall Lane Rowley Regis) with his mother Sarah and her two Grandchildren (no idea who's the parents are) Mary Hadley born abt 1833 Rowley Regis and Joseph born abt 1845 Rowley Regis. William is married but I can't find his wife Harriet on the 1851 census?

William appears with his wife from the 1861 census untill 1901 (so never remarries) living around the same place Gosty Hill, Rowley Regis and their children are named Joseph, George (my direct ancestor), Sarah, Mary Ann and Elizabeth so I think these could be names of brothers and sisters. George Hadley is a name that pops up on the 1841-1851 census around Rowley Regis and I'm sure one of these Georges is a brother of William.

I will order the birth certificate for William's son George to check out his mother's surname.

 I need to go for my Finnish language course now and I'm not looking forward to it because it's so difficult. I think it's the modern day spanish Inquisistion

Many thanks for your help.
Adrian

Adrian I think on the 1851 it says William is a widower!!

So you need to keep in mind that he could well have been married previously and that Sarah Hall fits marriage in 1847
Then we have a bapt I found for you in my Rowley regis book....did you see that father is Isaac.
living mincing lane!!
mother sarah!!

That then fits with a later marriage to another Hall a Harriet in 1857 possibly sister of Sarah!
and Wms father there is Isaac.

So Joseph may be the son of Sarah his first wife
she dies
and he marries in 1857 Harriet

nb the kids names too! Sarah!

Oh, well done, NL. That certainly makes sense of the 1851 census! I was thinking that William must have been married before Harriet. The only thing that put me off the scent was William in 51 being a Brick Maker, whereas, in all the other census, he is a Breech Pin Maker for guns.
Some mistakes are too much fun
to only make once.
