Trying to put events in order …

Marriage: Mary Hibbs and John Parkes, 24 May 1835

Submitted birth, with parents John Parkes & Mary Hibbs:
Maria Parkes 1836

Submitted birth, with parents John Parkes & Mary Hibbs:
Reuben Parkes 1840 Rowley Regis.

In 1841 John is alone with just one daughter, Maria, aged 5. So this Maria was born abt 1836 - That fits. Where is Mary (nee Hibbs?)

Mary Lowe aged 20 is next door with mother/grandmother(?) and sister(?) Elen. Mary has no children yet.

Submitted births, with parents John Parkes & Mary Hibbs:
Matilda Parkes 1843 Rowley Regis
George Parkes 1847 Rowley Regis

Poss. Death Mary Parkes (nee Hibbs):
Death 1847
PARKES Mary Rowley Regis
(Perhaps Mary Hibbs died in childbirth with George?)

Marriage: 1849
PARKES John R LOWE Mary Rowley Regis

Submitted birth, with parents John Parkes & Mary:
Reuben Parkes 1851 Rowley Regis.

In 1851 Mary has married and is living with John Parkes. John's daughter, Maria, from his first marriage is still with them and there are 3 children using the surname 'Parkes':
Matilda b. abt 1843,
George b. 1847,
Reuben b. abt 1850.

In 1861 these 3 children are still with John & Mary and still under surname 'Parkes'.
Also with them is a grandson, John Darby b. abt 1858 – a son of Maria? Did a Maria Parkes marry a Darby?

Marriage info from Jan about Lowe, George:
5 July 1868- Christchurch Oldbury
George Lowe - 22- bach- Labourer- Halesowen St- Mary Lowe
Ann Tromans - 22- spinster- Halesowen St- John Troman - fitter
banns
both signed
Wit- Rubin Parkes X Elizabeth Troman

1871 census:
Mott St, Blackheath
George Lowe 25 H M Potters Pipe Presser R/Regis
Ann Lowe 24 Wife R/Regis

If George is the son of John Parkes and his first wife, Mary Hibbs, why does he use the surname 'Lowe' and why is Mary Lowe on his marriage certificate???

Is George estranged from his dad for some reason and ,therefore, using his stepmother's maiden name and only putting her on the marriage cetificate?

Are both John & Mary Parkes around on the 1871 and later census?
YES
1871 Rowley Village
John Parkes Head 57 Rivet Maker b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
Mary Parkes Wife 53 Nail maker b. Staffs., Rowley Regis

1881 105 The Village, Rowley Regis
Mary Parkes Head Widow 62 Nail Maker b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
Ann Maria Darby Granddaur 17 Nail Maker b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
(At 109 The Village, Rowley Regis are that Thomas Perry and Ellen Perry (nee Lowe) that I was talking about earlier)

1891 105 The Village, Rowley Regis
Mary Parkes Head Widow 74 b. Staffs., Rowley Regis
Phillis Siviter Granddaur 6 b. Staffs., Rowley Regis (Did Matilda marry a Siviter?)

(Still at 109 The Village, Rowley Regis are Thomas Perry and Ellen Perry, nee Lowe.)

What do we think? Are we convinced that George Lowe and George Parkes are one and the same person?

I wonder if George was actually born to Mary Lowe (out of wedlock) and John Parkes, and they married after his 1st wife Mary (Hibbs) died?
It was a submitted birth for George born 1847 and as John married 2 Mary’s, they could have assumed the wrong one?

i agree with mally think george lowe is mary lowe son if she was living next door to john and mary parkes and mary was ill for a while then she would be in and out of the house helping out as neighbours use to do and thing gradually happen from there mary parkes might of even encourged it if she knew she was dying ?
A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.
