1841 Rowley Village
John Parkes 28 Nailer
Maria Parkes 5

Next door are:
Ann Lowe Nailor 80
Mary Lowe 20
Elen Lowe 14

All born Staffordshire

It looks possible that George may have been illegitimate.

... seems to be a common practice in this Lowe family. I think this "Elen Lowe" might be the same one who seems to have had 4 illegitimate children before she married my 1C4R, Thomas Perry in 1877:

This is amazing work!!

trying to follow it

So are you saying that George Lowe has mother Mary Lowe and that George and Matilda are her kids and illegitimate?

So she is living next door to John Parkes and then marries him.

So those bapts saying for George and Matilda father John Parkes and Mary hibbs are a load of wotsit?

Oh and any chance...please...please someone could fill in connections on this cos this is brill!

On the face of it looks to me, there's a possibility that John Parkes 1st wife was Mary Hibbs, she died or moved on, tho I haven't found a death for her, then he took up with the neighbour Mary Lowe. There's something odd about this..

I'll add it to BCC and it might become clear.
