I am trying to find out who lived in a particular house in London (28 Arlington Street, Islington) from the 1871 English census. I have found out how to do it for 1901 and 1911 but 1871 eludes me. Can someone help please!

Thank you so much for the info. I also wanted to scroll through the Scottish census returns for 1891,1901 and 1911 for the village of Bishopmill, Morayshire. Can I search these by locality?

The Scottish 1911 census is only available on Scotlands People web site and you have to pay for credits to see each individual entry. The same applies for the 1891 and 1901 censuses on this site, so you can't scroll through the various returns. You need a name or an address, but then you have to be very careful and make sure that it's the person you want otherwise it can cost you a lot of money if you don't get the right person.

You can see the Scottish census information for 1891 and 1901 on Ancestry and FMP, but as there are no images you can't scroll through the census returns.

It's a pity Scotlands People don't have a subscription service.

Thank you again. I had hoped this might help me break down a brick wall (which your Islington search did) but I know how Scotland's People system of credits can run through the cash!
