Battersea Workhouse records

Can any one give me some information on the Battersea/Wandsworth Union Infirmary/Workhouse. My grandmother was born in the above mentioned in 1878 to an unmarried mother. I believe she spent her early years in the workhouse before being fostered/adopted. Does any one know if there are records in existence for that period? I did e-mail the records office but didn't get a reply. I am trying to fill in the gap of 1881 when she seems to be missing.
