Royal Marine band boy

Postby gedr » Sat Mar 11, 2006 9:52 am

I cannot trace my father beyond his attestation as a band boy in 1911 aged 14 at Portsmouth
his place of birth is given as " not known " and of course, there are only records for officers.
The only thing I remember was his north country accent, that should narrow the field down quite a lot, :) .
My feelings are, as he never talked of home life, that he may have been in a Home.
Has anyone any experience of this situation, or come to that, any ideas at all.

Cheers, gedr.

If you post his details, you may find that someone else has more success. Might not be straight away - I've just had someone post useful info 2 years later, but it all helps!

As an addition to previous post, here's further details,
John Henry Roberts born 1897
Attested 28th March 1911 at Eastney
Next of kin given as: Sister; Queenie Elizabeth Roberts, c/o Lady Green,
Inglewood House, Westend Lane, Hampstead. (in service ?) no age given.

So, could they both have been in care before being put out to something useful?

I think I might try a search for a marriage of Queenie E. in North London, with the hope there would be some details on that.

Hoping, gedr.
