Finding more about Agnes Winman / Heffer

I'm looking for some help to find out more about my Grandmother who I know little about, please. I do know when and where she was born, married and died and who her children were but very little else. Her birth name was Agnes May Winman 1898 - 1954, married in 1929 in Hampstead to Edward or Edwin Heffer. I know she lived in the London area just before and after her marriage until a few years before she died in 1954. So I've found as many of the usual facts but what I'm really looking for is more about her life as family folklore says she and her husband were in trouble with the authorities but don't know what for. I've searched many places including the National Newspaper Archives in the UK and found nothing. Can anyone please help?
