ARC TBC BURLEY family Quarry Bank 1861-71

Postby Rob G » Fri Jan 08, 2021 11:55 am

I'm trying to connect 2 x BURLEY families who lived in the same streets in Quarry Bank 1861-71

William BURLEY (parents unknown) b. 1797 Stourbridge m. Mary ASSON 07 Jun 1818 St Mary's Kingswinford
They lived in Maugthn Street and also New St Q Bank and had 2 daughters, Sarah 1828 & Mary 1829

John BURLEY (parents Thomas & Elizabeth nee PARKES) b. 1826 Cradley m. Mary BURLEY (same family name) 1855 St Mark's Pensnett
They also lived in Maughn Street and New Street during the same period.

It seems logical that these two families are connected but I can't find evidence. I have extensive details of John's line going back to 1700 but have long been intrigued by William, about whom I know little other than what is above.

Can anyone help to find a connection?

So this is William in 1851?
Quarry Bank, New Street
William Barley 54
Mary Barley 43
Mary Barley 21
Sarah Hatton 23
Ann Hatton 4
Hannah Hatton 2
Jane Hatton 5 Mo

I think this is them in 1841

Town Forge, Old Swinford
William Burley 45
Mary Burley 40
William Burley 20
Wilkinson Burley 15
Thomas Burley 13
Sarah Burley 11
Mary Burley 9

In 1871 Wilkinson gives his place of birth as Stambermill, as does his brother William in 1851. And Stambermill is the birth place of Mary and Sarah in the 1851 census.

You say that William Burley married Mary Asson in 1818. Freereg has her surname as Aston, and it is also Atton here
Name: William Burley
Gender: Male
Marriage Date: 7 Jun 1818
Marriage Place: St. Mary'S, Kingswinford, Stafford, England
Spouse: Mary Atton
FHL Film Number: 1040004
Reference ID: 520

So, given the Wilkinson first name for their son, I wonder if there is actually a Hatton connection (earlier that their daughter Sarah's marriage?)

1841
Round Court, Old Swinford
Thomas Hatton 50
Elizabeth Hatton 45
Joseph Hatton 20
Wilkinson Hatton 15
Jane Hatton 15
John Hatton 11
Henry Hatton 7
James Hatton 4
Emma Hatton 2

Tthe name 'Asson' has been spelt in many ways and could indeed be 'Hatton'

Thanks for feedback

Is this still a Brickwall, or have you solved it?
