ARC TBC Kate B Law b.1881 - Tipton

Postby Ducie13 » Sun Dec 08, 2019 12:24 pm

Hi everyone, I am looking for a first cousin (Mother not married). A few years ago I discovered Kate was my great aunts child and although I have searched everywhere, I only have a small amount of information so far. This is what I have found: Kate B Law b. 14 Feb 1881 Tipton, to Agnes Hartill-Law.
1881 Census
71 Walsall Street, West Bromwich, Staffordshire
Agnes Law, age 19, Boarder, Dressmaker, Tipton, Staffordshire
Kate Law, age 6 weeks, West Bromwich, Staffordshire
With the Riley family RG11 PN2852 F28 P50
1891 Census
Bolham Road, Smethwick, Kings Norton, Worcestershire
Kate B Law, age 10, Lodger, Scholar, Tipton, Staffordshire
With William Backhouse and family RG12 PN2364 F94 P30
In the National School admission Register she is registered at Corbett Street School, Smethwick in 1890.
Her mother, Agnes, came to Australia with her brother and sister in 1881. Agnes had a son in Sydney in 1883, father unknown. She marr. George Yardley in 1888 in Sydney NSW. Do you think Kate may have been adopted and if so where would I look for information. Hoping someone may be able to help me. Kind regards, Ducie

There was not an official adoption at that time.
What was her middle name? You have B but the record mumbles found has no middle name?
Do you have further information on that?
I wonder if it was family or relative she stayed with?
Perhaps we could dig deeper?

This is what I have found: Kate B Law b. 14 Feb 1881 Tipton, to Agnes Hartill-Law.(Quote)
Obviously this must be her birth cert? If adopted their real name sometimes is used in marriages or census as occurs in my tree ,a Kate B Yorkshire born 14 Feb 1881 shows up on 1939 census and could be looked at it, says Hartson ? widow on transcription but is it a guess?
Kind regards RF

I just checked that RF and it is a transcription error, it should be HUITSON

HUITSON, DOREEN GLADYS MALCOLM
GRO Reference: 1915 D Quarter in MIDDLESBROUGH Volume 09D Page 1067

Marriages Sep 1900
Huitson Marmaduke W Middlesbro' 9d 1033
Malcolm Katie Barr Middlesbro' 9d 1033

So not that one...
