I’m curious if anyone has come across any more information on this recently. James Winchurch and Priscilla Jellyman are my great, great grandparents.

Hello all - long time no talk from me regarding this thread!

I recently ordered the birth certificates for Lily Sheridan and Thomas Henry Sheridan. The info they give is as follows:

When/where born: 1st April 1897, 17 Allen Street
Name/sex: Lily Sheridan, girl
Father/occupationr: Thomas Sheridan, forgeman
Mother/maiden surname: Priscilla Sheridan formerly Jerryman

Informant was Thomas Sheridan, father, 17 Allen Street, Stoke upon Trent, who registered her on 15th May 1897.

When/where born: 30th July 1898, Hill Street, Smallthorne
Name/sex: Thomas Henry, boy
Father/occupation: Thomas Sheredon, general labourer
Mother/maiden surname: Priscilla Sheredon formerly James

Informant was Priscilla Sheredon, mother, Hill Street, Smallthorne, who registered him on 16th September 1898. She gave her mark.

Both imply Thomas & Priscilla were married at this time - they were not.

I had previously thought that Lily and Thomas Henry were the children of Thomas Sheridan & Alice Jellyman (sister of Priscilla) as both their baptisms give their mother's name as Alicia, but now these birth certs give their mother as Priscilla, I'm inclined to believe that whoever entered the baptisms onto the record simply made a mistake regarding the mother's name.

I haven't purchased Thomas Sheridan and Priscilla Jellyman's 1900 marriage cert yet but hope to soon!

Also have got no further in investigating Alice Jellyman/Pountney - although now at least we know that she didn't bear Thomas Sheridan any children (I think!).

Would you mind if I private-messaged you so we could share info? I would have been in contact sooner but never got an email to let me know that this thread had been updated!

Hi all - got my hands on Priscilla Jellyman and Thomas Sheridan's marriage cert. Thought I'd post the details:

Married on 6th January 1900, in Stoke Upon Trent:
Thomas Sheridan, age 33, bachelor, ironworks labourer, living at 144 Stoke Old Road, Stoke, son of Martin Sheridan, deceased general labourer
Priscilla 'Jellemer', age 29, spinster, 41 Chetwynd St, Smallthorne, daughter of Charles Jellemer, deceased farmer

Thomas signed his name, Priscilla gave her mark (as she did on her children's birth certs also) Witnesses were Mary Ellen Sheridan, who gave her mark, and William something, who signed his name, but his last name is pretty much illegible.

Priscilla's age is a bit out - after doing a brief bit of research, I think Thomas' is too but I haven't research enough to substantiate that yet - and her address is a bit hard to read - I got Chetwynd St looking at a list of streets in the Smallthorne area and comparing them to what was written - and I've seen Charles Jellyman, her father, referred to as a farmer previously, on censuses and the baptisms of some of Priscilla's siblings.

Will update this thread if I come across anything else.
