ARC TBC Taylor (1872 - ?) Aunt of Tom Lewis, WBA footballer

Postby Waltzer7 » Thu Oct 27, 2016 11:05 pm

Hi,

I have tried tracing Sarah Taylor (1872 - ?) who married Philip Henry Adams (1872 - 1953) and later separated or divorced (not sure when). They had two sons, Arthur John Adams (1896 - 1960) and Philip Edwin Adams (1899 - 1977). Dad thinks she lived in Two Gates Lane or Lyde Green. She was an Aunt of Tom Lewis who used to play for West Bromwich Albion. I would appreciate any advice or information on Sarah Taylor.

Thanks

The Arthur married to Lucy is incorrect as Arthur John Adams married a Minnie Raybould in 1925 Christ Church Lye

Sarah appears to have disappeared by 1901 and 1911 when Philip Henry Adams is living with Mills Family and son Arthur John is with Adams Grandparents
Son Philip Edwin Adams is with father in 1911 but cannot find in 1901

This Could be Sarah Adams

Sarah Adams sister 28
John Taylor son 9
Mary E, Taylor dau 3

Wow! what a lot of information that I've not been able to find and am now finding more information on Sarah Caroline Taylor's parents Samuel and Delilah, which are conflicting. Are there two Samuel and Delilah Taylors?

I currently have Samuel Taylor as being born around 1848 and Delilah Williams born around 1854 from the 1881 census and yet I have come across Delilah Williams born on 20 December 1851 in Rowley Regis (see link:http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&dbid=8767&h=20616393&tid=51274345&pid=430043910391&hid=75173651909&usePUB=true&_phsrc=SiK130&_phstart=default&usePUBJs=true ) who has married Samuel Taylor who was born in USA during 1848 and they both immigrated from Liverpool/Queenstown, Ireland and arrived in New York on 28 May 1913!

Despite the conflicting dates, are they the same couple?

I have asked Dad to check if he has the correct name or club of the footballer.

Much appreciated

Many thanks Mumbles, as I don't have access to records abroad or in the army/navy.

I have found another Samuel Taylor born around 1848 in Rowley Regis, whose parents are Thomas and Hannah Taylor on the 1871 census: -

Household members: -

Thomas Taylor 59 Blacksmith
Hannah Taylor 59
Thomas Taylor 25 Blacksmith
Eliza Taylor 29
Samuel Taylor 23 Blacksmith

so am wondering if this is the one that married Delilah Williams (born in 1854) that is connected to our family tree. I am not aware of anyone immigrating to USA apart from my Dad's Uncle Vic Raybould and other members of the Raybould family to Australia.

I've just noticed your other message which hadn't appeared when I last looked in there: -

"The Arthur married to Lucy is incorrect as Arthur John Adams married a Minnie Raybould in 1925 Christ Church Lye

Sarah appears to have disappeared by 1901 and 1911 when Philip Henry Adams is living with Mills Family and son Arthur John is with Adams Grandparents
Son Philip Edwin Adams is with father in 1911 but cannot find in 1901"

Yes, my Grandad Arthur John Adams married Minnie Raybould who died aged 29 when my Dad was 6 years old. Dad lived with his Grandad and Great Uncle at 50, Windmill Hill, which used to be a pub.

For some reason the bcconnections.tribalpages.com isn't working at my end :(

Many thanks Rockyfowler and I would like to point out that my Grandad, Arthur John Adams was born on 16 June 1896 but where was he born? If you are referring to Minnie - she was born in October 1903 and died aged 29 from a heart condition on 21 September 1932. I have Arthur John marrying Minnie at Hayes Lane Methodist Church, Lye on 8 June 1926. Is Hayes Lane Methodist church also called Christchurch? I know of a Christ church in Quarry Bank.

Please ignore above as they do not appear to be the parents of Delilah Taylor plus have found out that at Samuel & Delilah's wedding on 3 April 1870, that Samuel's father was John Taylor, Horse nailer and Delilah's father was Thomas Williams, Labourer. Cannot find anymore records on John Taylor or Thomas Williams...

I have changed the year of birth for Arthur, I think it has been an error on BCC.

Many thanks for this, Northern Lass but Mumbles has already posted the same info. What I'm now looking at is that I cannot find anymore records on John Taylor, father of Sarah Caroline Taylor or Thomas Williams, father of Delilah Williams? How do I go further in finding their fathers? Any advice will be very much appreciated.
