Remembering Lance Sergeant John William Weston. John was captured after the fall of Hong Kong in 1941. Eventually he became a P.O.W. aboard the Lisbon Maru and perished when the ship was torpedoed by USS Grouper.1st October 1942. John was the first cousin of my late father.

Remembering Lieutenant James Malcolm Stuart Poole, DSC and Bar aged 23. Perished at sea aboard H.M. Submarine Urge. 6th June 1942. James joined the Navy as a cadet and was the only child of his parents. James was married on March 22nd 1941 and after just three weeks of marriage was recalled to his ship.

In Memory Of William Arthur Victor Candy aged 18. Lost at sea aboard HMS Caistor, 3rd May 1916.

In memory of John Jeavons. 1877-1928. Fourght in the First Word War in Mesopotamia.
He survived the war, but it seems to have deeply affected his relationship with his youngest children, who never understood how much the war had probably changed him. I wish I'd known him.

Remembering: My grandfather: ROBERT CADMAN

Flight Sergeant Robert Cadman
of 635 Squadron, Royal Sir Force Volunteer Reserve.

Died aged 26 on Saturday 26th August 1944 whilst flying in a Lancaster Bomber over Germany. He was a rear tail gunner in the plane. My mother was nearly 3 months old when he died. He is buried in Kiel War Cemetary, Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

Robert Cadman was my uncle who ever posted this is my grand niece and her mother is my niece my name is Michael Simper and live in Australia

who died on 10 July 1916, Remembered with Honour Thiepval Memorial.

and my Grand Uncle, Sydney Riley, Born 1889 in Dudley Port, Tipton, Killed in Action 20 July 1916, Flanders, serving with the 11th Batallion Cheshire Regiment

and my Grand Uncle William Charles Riley, Born 1892, Dudley Port, Tipton, Killed in Action. He was a rifleman in the 9th Batalion, Rifle Brigade and is buried in Ypres Cemetery (Menin Gate).

Air raid on Bari
The air raid on Bari was an air attack by German bombers on Allied forces and shipping in Bari, Italy, on 2 December 1943 during World War II. In the attack, 105 German Junkers Ju 88 bombers of Luftflotte 2, achieving complete surprise, bombed shipping and personnel operating in support of the Allied Italian campaign, sinking 27 cargo and transport ships and a schooner in Bari harbor.

The attack, which lasted a little more than one hour, put the port out of action until February 1944 and was called the "Little Pearl Harbor". The release of mustard gas from one of the wrecked cargo ships added to the loss of life. The British and American governments covered up the presence of mustard gas and its effects on victims of the raid.

Twenty-eight merchant ships laden with more than 34,000 short tons (31,000 t) of cargo were sunk or destroyed; three ships carrying a further 7,500 short tons (6,800 t) were later salvaged. Twelve more ships were damaged. The port was closed for three weeks and was only restored to full operation in February 1944.All Bari-based submarines were undamaged, their tough exteriors able to withstand the German attack

One of the ships damaged in the raid was Laurence's 'Brittany Coast' Cargo ship 1,389 GRT

(Six years later In 1949 after being taken ill onboard ship, he died the next day at home in Dublin age 51 )

My Great Uncle William Smith.
William Smith born 1878 in Old Hill,was a Miner who was a specially enlisted tunneller in the 175th,Company Royal Engineers,. Number102384
He was killed in Flanders on September11th1915. He has no known grave. His name is inscribed on the memorial at Menin Gate ,and also on the memorial at St.Wilfreds Church, Arley near Nuneaton where William was living with his wife Sarah and 7 children.,prior to his enlistment.
He was the younger brother of my paternal grandma Keturah Bradley.
