Hi,

Just wondering if anyone could look up a marriage which was registered in Sheffield in the First Quarter of 1853. The people who were married on the record were my 4th Great Grandparents, Mark James (May 1828- 4th Qtr 1901) and Mary Ann Crossland (14 Jan 1832 - 1st Qtr 1917).
They were both from Rotherham. Mark was definitely from the Kimberworth area and Mary Ann from Wellgate.
In 1851, Mark was on the census as a Stone Grate Fitter and was the head of the household after his father's death in 1837 at the age of 53.
I would just like to confirm a few details, I know that Mark's father was Thomas James for definite, it's just confirming Mary Ann's father, so to see if that's the right marriage record for them or even if he married a Mary Ann Crossland at all, I'm going to need someone to check up Yorkshire for me at Sheffield archives, so that I can put this to rest. Also, if it is the right record, I would like to know Mark's father's occupation as he died before any census, so I do not know his occupation.
I would check myself, but I am from Dudley in the West Midlands and therefore not local to Sheffield or Rotherham.

Any response would be greatly received,

Best Wishes,

Jack Fern
