Dorset request

Postby Carol » Thu Jan 23, 2014 8:49 pm

Hi Folks,
I'm looking into the history of another Dorset thatched cottage. This time the property is called Kitchermans and it is in Lytchett Minster. I have found the 1881 census when it appears as 4 separate dwellings Nos 15, 16, 17 and 18.

I would love to know more about this and wondered if anyone could get any of the other census details for me? The 1911 would be especially interesting.

Thanks- waiting in hopeful anticipation.

That would mean two rooms a piece when it was divided into four?

Hi Jimmy
That is brilliant- thank you so much for the 1911 info. I will pass that on to an elderly lady I know who was born there. She tells me that it was a scary place to grow up in a very isolated place. She recounted how one night she came home late from a dance and found a man lurking in the back garden- must have been terrifying out in the middle of no where. She also tells me that she always thought it was haunted but never saw a ghost herself.

Yes they must have been packed in like sardines in days gone by but I suppose that was not uncommon- it would have been the countryside's version of the cities back to backs for the working poor.

Is this done with now? If I don't hear within a week it will be archived.
