FAMILY TREE MAKER 2010

Postby grannie annie » Sun Sep 19, 2010 9:45 am

I have recently changed from FTM2006 to FTM2010, and wish I hadn't.....It does give you more options for information, but I find it too fiddly and time consuming. I am seriously thinking of changing software completely, but need more information on other software. What other software do members use ??

Thanx - Annette

you could use tribal page as we do for the bcc tree

A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

I've started using Tribal Pages too. I find it a lot more flexible than FMT (mines an older version though). I must admit I stopped using FMT ages ago - I wish I could turn the hints off, om´n the version I've got even if I reject a hint, it doesn't disapear :(
I like that on Tribal Pages the parents of a child can be something other than married, and it gives more options for dates, such as "before" a certain date, "after" a certain date, "about" and so on.
I also have my tree on Ancestry, so I update both (not finished putting everyone on tribal pages yet though). When your tree is finished you can also order a cd with it on, which according to their blurb is just like using tribal pages - I may do that at some point, if only so I have a backup of my tree.

Family Tree Maker 2011 is a lot better but my favorite is still RootsMagic 4.

As for options on dates. Family Tree Maker and most other programs understand bef, aft, abt etc without having to select them from a menu.

Family Tree Maker only marks couples as partners. It does not assume they are married.
