Family Tree Maker 2012 On Old PC?

I'm just starting to research my family and didn't know whether to buy FTM 2012 Platinum or not. I fancy the Ancestry membership, and it says it's compatible with windows XP but I've also read (in Amazon reviews) that it's a bit resource hungry so I'm not sure if my PC will cope. Is anyone here using this on an old PC and does it cope OK?

Thanks. :-)

Thanks for the reply. I've just found the recommended specs for FTM and it says at least 1GB ram  and I've got 512MB so I definately won't be using that, not at the moment anyway. I've been looking at free programs instead. I'd never heard of gedcom files before I had to google it, it looks a bit technical for me. :-)
