I am curious to know if on certificates during the War, if the father was in the Forces, whether this would be mentioned or his usual occupation? I have a birth certifcate for 1943, where the father was a Gunner in the 70th Regt, and died in action in Italy in 1944. However, on his son's birth certificate in 1943, he is mentioned as working as an Electric Welder in armaments, I am wondering if he could have been with his regiment earlier or could he have joined in 1944 only? I have several records for his death, but none mention when he actually joined. Thanks.
