Damaged 1911 Census

Postby Devonjeff61 » Tue Sep 22, 2020 8:34 am

hi
Iam trying to trace a Mary Ann BIRD b1876 - illegitimate Daughter of Willian & Annie Bird,
Struggling to find her in 1911 Census, I finally possible found
her on the 1911 Census at a property on Kennisngton (She was working along side her (sister/Daughter?) Caroline Amy Bird- age 23 servant)
she appears I think in the 1939 Register with Caroline- at 26 Manor Road, Hillingdon in Hayes and Harlington

but the census has been damaged by fire 9 (AGE MISSING) (Kensington South, Registration district number 2, Registration district number 22, dist no 22
Census reference RG14PN109 RD2 SD1 ED22 SN9999) is there any where else this info can be found?

Hi
I'm a bit confused by this.

Mary Ann BIRD b1876 - illegitimate Daughter of Willian & Annie Bird

How do you know she was illegitimate? Where do you get her parents' names from?

The 1939 Mary Ann is said to be born 25/9/1872 so not a great fit. Caroline Amy is said to be born 13/11/1887 and I'm wondering if she is this one down as Amy in 1911 (also at Harlington)
George Bird 50
Sarah Bird 48
Ellen Bird 25
Amy Bird 23
Daisy Bird 20
George Bird 16
William Bird 10

but no sign of a Mary Ann in that family

So this is them in 1891 at Brentford
William Bird 34
Ann Bird 36
Mary Bird 16
Eliza Bird 12
Sarah Bird 9
Annie Bird 6

and 1901, Brentford too
William Bird 46
Ann Bird 48
Eliza Bird 21
Sarah Bird 18
Annie Bird 16
William Bird 3

1911 Brentford too
William Bird 56
Ann Bird 56
Sarah Bird 26
William Bird 14
William Webb 26

Not sure about Mary Ann in 1901. There is a housemaid aged 25 in Kent, born Middlesex. Could be her but not sure about the birthplace.
Similarly in 1911 there is a housemaid/cook aged 36 in Chiswick, born Middlesex, not sure about the place.

And this marriage at St Martin in the Field

17 Sept 1916
George Mills 46 widower window cleaner father George Mills, waiter
Mary Ann Bird 42 spinster father William Bird, gardener

(William is a labourer in the census, but Mary is a garden worker in 1891 and a neighbour is a garden labourer so it is not impossible)

and 1939
Mary Ann Mills widow born 25 Aug 1876
with
Doris Mills born 11 Sept 1916

Nothing very firm but a possibility

Lots of the Birds lived in the Chiswick area , so this would seem to be correct
thanks
