hi
As I have plenty of time on my hands!

Iam working on my Fathers side Family History.. and have a few basic questions

1) on free BDM I can find a marriage for Mr Great Grandmother - Annie Guyett (ne Shortland) in Brentford Sept 1903. but why cant find one for my Great Grandfather (Jesse Guyett? Sept 1903)
Also I found marriage entry for a Annie Shortland in West Bromich for the same period.. why is this?
I though there would be 2 entries one for my Great Grandfather & one for my Great Grandmother under her maiden name??(in the saem area Brentford) or does it not work like this?

2) My Grandfather left a memories for his early years in Hounslow and mentions that Annie (his mother) had 4/5 sisters ( Eliza & Sarah where two) (my father remembers Sarah)
but I can find only one Birth Entry for Annie in June 1885 in Dudley while both Sarah & Eliza seem to be up younger & are both are born in Brentford.. perhaps they are Cousins? , is it best to get this certificates.

any help would be great.. and would joining a web site help
Jeff

Yes you should see both names. If your Grandmothers maiden name was Shortland you should search that unless of course she had married before?

What do you know of their children have you checked the GRO for maiden name to make sure it shows Shortland?
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/cert ... /login.asp

Do you when they were born? Perhaps give more info of what you have as fact and we can see if we can help?

It is always best to get certificates if you can not prove things, no point climbing the wrong tree

There was a marriage on freebmd but name Bird?

Hi
thanks for the help

the 1st child was William George (born 1908) & I have his birth certificate. his mother was Annie Guyett (nee Shortland)

Jesse Sidney Guyett born 1883 died in 1921 aged 37 ; Annie was born 22rd Feb 1885 (another Annie Shortland was born in 1887 also in Dudley!) and died in Bristol in 1977 (under the Surname of Millward- 2nd marriage)

does seem strange I cant find her 1st marriage under the maiden name? (could this be just an emission)?; The Surname Bird also came up but it that seems to be a different Shortland also Living in Brentford at the same time

I have found an Eliza Shortland b1874 in Brentford along with several other sisters/Cousins? to Annie?

re - 1911. 32 King Place Cottage, Backlane, Brentford
Jesse Guyett, head, 27, Labourer, Hounslow
Annie, wife, 26, married 4 years, 1 child 1 living, Laundress, Brentford
William, son, 3, Brentford .thanks .. this is correct and they must have moved there from Harringay road East ( which no longer exists) and them moved to at 17 Clarence terrace

one other question - Jesse was working on the Railway or tram line when he was hit by a train/tram and spent over a year in hospital would there be any records of this accident ?

many thanks
Jeff

Hi
that birth cert I have of my Grandfather looks like a minefield ( and yes it should be Bird not Shortland) but why???

I will check the rest later,, but Annie Ellen was my Grandfathers Sister and the 1901 census looks right ...with the sisters

many thanks
Jeff

READING DOWN,.. it may have been they gave by mistake the name Shortland .(.Annie's Mothers maiden Name).. rather than her own maiden name ..Bird
makes sense now

Who was the informant on the birth certificate for William George? I'm just wondering on how the questions were asked by the Registrar on the Mother's maiden name.

The marriage you found for Annie Shortland in 1903 West Bromwich Reg. Dist. she married Jabez Fellows

Marriage: 26 Sep 1903 All Saints, Moxley, Staffs (FreeREG)
Jabez Fellows, 21, B, Boiler Maker, Moxley, Daniel Fellows, Boiler Maker
Annie Shortland, 20, S, Moxley, James Shortland, Labourer
Wit: Benjamin Firm, Sarah Firm

so you can discount that one.

hi
Stumped again , Eliza Bird 21 (Brentford, sister of Annie) in the 1901 census goes missing and is not in the 1911 census under that name
can not find a death, but 2 marriages in 1904 for Eliza Jane Bird from Brentford.. both seem incorrect??? my grandfather say she was living in Chiswick (with a doctor?)

I did find another something strange Annie Bird became Annie Guyett on her 1st marriage , when she remarried Fred Millward.. he's 1st Wife was Harriet Guyett (not a close relation that I can find)
I will now take nothing for granted and may be related to all the Guyett's in this Country!

I wonder if there is some transcription problem...?
I can not see that marriage that is on freebmd on any parish records unless of course it is registry office?

You would need to buy that to confirm... could check 1939...
