William Wallace and William Henry Prince

Postby eprince75 » Tue May 12, 2020 8:55 pm

I am looking for information on my great grandfather William Wallace Prince born April 29, 1869 in Stockton-On-Tees and my 2x great grandfather William Henry Prince born 1844 in England. I am having a difficult time finding information before they immigrated to the United States and my father knew nothing about them. I know that William W. mothers name was Emma Pickering and she was born in England. William H. immigrated with 2 of his sons Joseph William and my great grandfather William Wallace somewhere around 1880.

NEW: Butte County was able to get the death certificate for William Henry Prince. But it lists his mother with only a last name of Pickering. His son my great grandfather William Wallace has Emma Pickering born in England listed as his mother.....I am so confused now...
If anyone could help me in England that would be really appreciated.

I don't know who Emma Prince is. I have a request into the cemetery to get information, but they had moved out of their offices and put stuff in storage right before coronavirus. So I have to wait until they can get into storage and get the records. I am thinking she may be a daughter of William Henry. She was born after William Wallace was born.

It looks like they changed the family name after emigrating, there is nothing for Prince I can find.

Is there a UK DNA site that I could upload my DNA to that might help match?

So I have been thinking...What if the last name was changed but the First name and middle initial was the same? I looked up William born in 1869 and Joseph born in 1868. Joseph and William were brothers. Born to William H. Both listed Stockton-On-Tees as their place of birth. Joseph listed his birth date as April 2, 1868 and William W is April 28, 1869. I found that their is birth records for Joseph William Hall on the birth index for April - May- June 1868 in Stockton, and there is a birth record for William Walter Hall for April - May- June 1869. Can someone tell me how to look up the actual records for these births to find out who the parents were?

is this him too?

This one says naturalised Feb 13th 1892 Sacramento , Superior and lists him as illiterate, working as a "wiper".

The son Joseph William's passport application says he presented a naturalisation certificate dated Sept 8th 1892, Superior Court Sacramento

Is it possible to get copies of naturalization records? Do they say anything?

Would William Henry's marriage certificate for the marriage to Ethel (assuming this is the same man) give you any extra information? Added: not the image on Family search at least, just the names and ages and witnesses :-(
