Hi, I have been trying to trace my Husbands Great Grandfather. We have his marriage certificate which states his name as Thomas Berry and his Father as Francis Berry. Thomas married Ellen Sherfield July 1895 in Steyning in Sussex. The Census for 1901 shows them living in Hove with their sons Francis and Charles (Francis being my husband's Grandfather). Thomas is aged 33 and Ellen 28 in 1901, Thomas has listed his birthplace as Oxford, Oxfordshire. There is another census for 1891 where a Thomas Berry aged 23 is a lodger with an Alfred and Caroline Mason living in St Albans Hertfordshire. We believe this could be our Thomas as another census for 1891 shows Ellen Sherfield living in St Albans at the age of 19 (hence our thinking this is where they met).
My problem is I am struggling to find a Thomas Berry born 1868 in the Oxford (Chalgrove) listing. I have found a Thomas Berry from Bladon (father unknown) but through trial and error have discounted that. I also have found a Thomas James Berry from Woodstock and a Thomas John Berry from Banbury. Neither of which appear to have a Father named Francis.
I am struggling on how to move forward without mothers maiden name.
Any advice would be greatly received.
Debbie
