Hello, Newby here. I've been researching family tree for just a few months, but already have over 400 names listed, going back to around 1560.

I have just come across a parish death record which looks a little unusual. It's from Feniton in Devon, and each page is laid out in 3 columns. Column 1 is the name of the deceased. Column 3 contains male names which recur, so I take that to be the presiding clergyman.

Column 2 is the issue here. it contains names which recur (so they are not relatives), and they are all female. Would these be the group of village women responsible for preparing corpses?
