Thank you BC Wench. I can find nothing more on Hamlet or his father Edward...

Neither can I Sharon. The next place to look would be the family search web site.

I've not been following this but there are several entries in the London Gazette relating to insolvency proceedings against a Hamlet Monks which may be relevant.

Googling "Hamlet Monks" also threw up the following page: http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Liverpool/Liv ... 1871i.html you'll need to use your search engine to find it on the page.

Thanks for those SRD.

I also found on Lancashire Online Parish Clerk
http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html

This baptism for a Hamlet Monks, but dismissed it because of his father being a Weaver.

Baptism: 26 Jan 1806 St Elphin, Warrington, Lancashire, England (LOPC)
Hamblet Monks - Son of Edward Monks & Sarah
Occupation: Weaver

But have now found this

Baptism: 8 May 1808 St Elphin, Warrington, Lancashire, England (LOPC)
Thomas Monks - Son of Edward Monks & Sarah
Occupation: File Cutter

Marriage: 15 Oct 1804 St John, Liverpool, Lancashire, England (Lancashire Online Parish Clerk)
Edward Monks - File Cutter, Liverpool
Sarah Dobson - (X), Spinster, Same Parish
Witness: Robt. Bispham; Thomas Side
Married by Banns by: Richard Loxham

1841 Census: New John Street, St George Paris, Birmingham
Edward Monks, 55, File M(aker) J(ourneyman), not born in County
Sarah Monks, 50, not born in County
Sarah Monks, 25, Stay M(aker)
Amelia Monks, 17, Stay M(aker)
Edward Monks, 14
Samuel Monks, 11
Samuel Kay, 65, Brass Founder, not born in County
(Others born in County)

Baptism: 14 June 1830 St Philip, Birmingham (Born 13 Aug 1814) INDEXED AS SARAH GIBSON MONKS
Sarah Dobson Monks, Edward & Sarah Monks, Weaman Street, File Cutter

Baptism: 5 June 1827 St Philip, Birmingham (Born 21 Dec 1823)
Amelia Dobson Monks, Edward & Sarah Monks, New John Street, File Cutter

Baptism: 5 June 1827 St Philip, Birmingham (Born 21 Mar 1827)
Edward, Edward & Sarah Monks, New John Street, File Cutter

So to me it looks like Edward Monks & Sarah Dobson married in Liverpool, had at least 2 children Hamlet & Thomas, moved to Birmingham by the 1841 census, where their married son Hamlet was already living there in 1841 census.

There's a 6 years gap between the births of Thomas Monks (1808) - Sarah Dobson Monks (1814)

Over to you Sharon, see what you think.

I thought I'd found him, but dismissed the weaver theory too as on Hamlets second marriage cert his father Edward is a file cutter also. I think the Liverpool / Lancashire link is correct.
Thought..I wonder if the "weaver" was mis-transcribed or confused with the address of Weamen Street.

I was really stuck here....thank you both so much.
