Hello Pam

What information do you have for a census ? The last census to be released is the 1911, so you will probably be able to find their parents. Do you have access to Ancestry or Find My Past ?

I couldn't find a marriage either, but I did find this on the 1911 Census, don't know if it's relevant or not!

38 Couchman Road Saltley B'ham
William Kemp, Head, Married, 30, Stone Labourer, Droitwich Worcestershire
Edith Kemp, Wife, Married 4 years, 27, Warrickshire Birmingham
Thomas Tustin, Brother, Single, 18, Metal Liner, Warrickshire Birmingham
Francis Tustin, Brother, Single, 14, Errand Boy, Warrickshire Birmingham
Thomas Kemp, Son, 3, Warrickshire Birmingham
Edith Kemp, Daughter, 1, Warrickshire Birmingham

Begs the question, if Thomas and Francis are Edith's Brothers, was she married before. It looks as though William and Edith married in 1907.

I've found Arthur's birth record, no doubt that the mother's surname is Sheppard. I wonder if there's a transcription error

There is an Edith Kemp who died in 1915, and then this:

KEMP, William J
Registration district: Aston
County:Warwickshire
Year of registration:1917
Quarter of registration:Jul-Aug-Sep
Spouse's last name: Plater

Spouse's Name:PLATER, Edith E

Edith was married before:

Name:SHEPPARD, Edith E
Registration district: Aston
County:Warwickshire
Year of registration:1914
Quarter of registration:Apr-May-Jun
Spouse's last namePlater
Volume no: 6D
Page no: 907

Spouse's Name:PLATER, Frank

Frank seems to have died in the 3rd quarter of 1914.
It looks like both Edith Sheppard and William Kemp were married before, and both were widowed.

You probably know this but there are the following children born with Sheppard as mother's maiden name:

Jessie Kemp 1917 - Aston
Ivy M Kemp 1919 - Aston
Arthur A Kemp 1920 - Aston
Beatrice J Kemp 1922 - Aston
Lewis Kemp 1924 - B'ham North
Irene E Kemp 1926 (1st quarter) - B'ham North
Kathleen I Kemp 1926 (4th quarter) Ipswich

The last one's a bit strange, but it is just possible!
Unfortunately the baptisms for Birmingham on ancestry only go up to 1912.

Hello again Pam

You won't find either of them on any census. There is a 100 year privacy law which prevents details on census being published until it is 100 years old. The next census is the 1921 census, which should be published in 2021.

You will need to see the 1911 census, but on this you will only be able to find their parents. There are a few free sites where you can view census information : 1881 is held on the LDS site here : https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1321821

There are some census records held on FreeCen here : http://www.freecen.org.uk

The 1911 census, as far as I am aware is only on Pay per View sites such as Ancestry and Find My Past, both of these sites you will have to sign up to.

I think before you can go any further back with your research, you will need to find marriage information on the parents.

Hope this helps - Maggie

Your local library may have access to Ancestry.com where census records can be found.
