Hi everyone, I have finally taken the plunge and joined up. Some time ago my father traced our family back as far as 1806 and after much delay I have volunteered to see if I can go back any further. I keep getting emails trying to get me to subscribe to various genealogy sites and I am bewildered by the variety on offer. It would cost a fortune to sign up to them all. Is there one (or two?) that is considered to be the most useful/essential?

What I have so far is: my great, great, great grandfather was a man named Richard Kent y.o.b. 1806
According to 1851 census records he originated in Owslebury Hamps. His wife was Charlotte y.o.b. 1812.
He was a master wheelright & had four sons:- Walter,George,Charles & Allen and two daughters Ellen & Emily. In 1851 they lived in Swanmore Hamps.

I would like to find out who Richard Kent's parents were and where they were from.

Any guidance on where to go from here would be much appreciated.

Tony you would need to check this out in actual registers as it has an EAsy ref from the Latter day saints site
so may be a submitted entry by someone.
If it has an odm ref means from Parish registers

Tony you wont get fathers name on marriage but witnesses help sometimes on marriage entry

It now looks like Richard Kent (D0B: 5 Jan 1806) was the son of Richard Kent (christened in Ovington, Hampshire in 1781?) and Ann Maria Bennett (DoB: 1784). I have got Ann Marie's parents' names (Benjamin Bennett, Ursula) but cannot find the names of Richard Kent senior's parents so far.
