Eaborns/Ebbon/Eburnes in Warwickshire

Postby Northern Lass » Wed Apr 08, 2009 6:05 pm

Bit of a mystery that I looked into on the Eaborns a while back.

We had family of Smiths in the 1881 Census a Thomas Smith and a Sarah smith age about 65ish
they were in Duddeston Aston at 98? bk of Dartmouth street
bear with me cos this is off top of me head

now living with them was a John Smith and Martha Smith
John b abt 1846 and Martha 1841
on a previous census this John was an Ebbon b Warwickshire

I bet he links to this lot.

but the odd thing was
why is that John Smith a John Ebbon /eaborn in 1871 1891 and 1901
and why cant we find John Eaborn b warks 1846 in 1851 census or indeed the 1861
then he marries Martha Tyler and we have him on following census

I seem to remember his father on the marriage certif was a John Ebbon polisher in the jewellery trade or similar

can anyone find these census and post so we can have a crack at this
Eaborn/Ebbon /Eburne cannot be a common name going back and they must all link up
I should perhaps post this in the general section but if I can link these Eaborns I will be adding them to the tree so might as well leave here

has a father John polisher in the Jewellery trade

Ok this is them and if I remember rightly in 1881 or maybe 1891 that Clara is on the next page to John Ebbon and wife Martha
as a servant in a house

1871 Powell St Aston manor Warks
Thomas Smith 54 gun finisher b B'ham
Sarah Smith 51 b B'ham
Clara Smith 7 g.dau b B'ham

what I found strange is that in 1851 there was a John Ebbon age 5? with a family of Smiths
can anyone find that one
and then in 1861 think the same John is now a smith

that's him FS

now you find him in 1861 and 1851....he is not there!

but

there is on the 1851 a John Ebbler age 5 living with an Edward and Esther Smith she is b 1792
in Aston Warks

then in 1861 this John Ebbler has changed to a John Smith age 15

So this John Ebbon b 1846 Warks is on 1871 with Martha as Ebbon/ 1881 as a Smith with other smiths/1891 as Ebbon and 1901 as Ebbon

Is that him in 1851 with Esther Smith?

found this

The family name is Ebbon and the family lived in Aston area from 1800 to 1950. we can trace the family back to 1846 but we cannot find,

John Ebbon snr DoB c1810

John Ebbon DoB 1846 married Martha Tyler DoB 1841, on 24 Dec 1869

John Ebbon snr was listed on the wedding cert as John Ebbon's father

and this

John Ebbern Dob 1806 Warwickshire married Winnifred XXXX DoB 1808
Long Buckby Northamptonshire .
1871 census shows them residing in Aston.

John Ebbern DoB 1809 Sowe Warwickshire married
Winfred xxxx DoB 1811 Sowe Warwickshire

1881 census shows them residence in Aston.

1881 3 Bk 14 Howe St Aston, Warwick,

Frederick OWEN Boarder 45 Macclesfield, Cheshire, House Painter

there this

John Ebburn c 15th Dec 1807 Walsgrave on Sowe. Father Thomas. Mother Sarah
They also christened other children:

Thomas 1799
Diana 1801
William 1804
Sarah 1807
Ann 1808
Joseph 1810

I've just looked at my 1851 copy of the census for Warwickshire and there is no sign of John or Winifred. There is however a Sarah Ebbern, head of household, widow, age 72. Born Sowe. Address is Sowe Foleshill. she has 5 gdau's living wiht her and a servant.

I also found William Ebourn living in Sowe. Aged 47. widower, Inn keeper. He is living with his younger brother Geroge aged 33, Head, Licensed Victualer.

on the 1841 census

John Eburn age 49 Watchman
Charlotte his wife age 51 Weaver living in Gosford Street, Coventry.

Hannah Eburn age 35 Nurse, also Gosford Street but different address.
