I do apologise for me saying earlier I didn't think they were my Grandmother's children, i've just called my Mum and she had some recollection of her mother having 2 children pass away very shortly after they were born. How very sad :( Wow women were truly strong people even back then, the burden/responsibility they carried with very little or no help...

Thankyou to those who picked that up on the records x

The only Clifford Chaplin I could find in 1911 was in Fulham - age fits but no middle names and born in Derby rather than Leicester so not at all sure that it's the right one.

9, Brittania Road, Fulham
Ethel Chaplin, (Wife - crossed out and Head written above), 35, Married for 15 1/2 years; 4 children born; 4 living, none died, no occupation given, born Leeds
Mabel Chaplin, Daughter, 14, Single, no occupation given, born Northampton
Ethel Chaplin, Daughter, 12, Single, no occupation given, born Northampton
Clifford Chaplin, Son, 10, Single, no occupation given, born Derby
Ronald Chaplin, Son, 6, Single, no occupation given, born Derby

Couldn't find a marriage.

Hi, thanks for that information! You're right about the age fitting, just not sure about the rest...?
Tommorrow i'm looking at ordering a copy of my grandparents death certificates, then hopefully work back from there and get their birth certificates.

Thanks for the great help :-)

Have had a quick look on FreeBMD to check if the marriage was indexed under Spencer rather than Chaplin but could see nothing obvious - think you need those birth certs to verify mothers surname.

Good thinking! Yes I tried different ways of putting the names, but still no joy. It is very bizarre to not have found their marriage record anywhere..

Not every Marriage has been transcribed on Free BMD, as I explained yesterday you need to search the Indexes once you know which Registration district.
