Millett/Grubb

Postby andrewwg » Thu Feb 21, 2013 11:03 pm

I am seeking descendents of John MILLETT (c1816-1864) who married Sarah GRUBB (1817-1868) in St Pancras Parish Church on 8 Dec 1839.

Sarah was sister of my 2G Grandfather Richard GRUBB (1827-1905) who migrated with his family to Melbourne, Australia on the "Western Empire" in 1870.

It appears that the families may have kept in contact as Richard's son John William GRUBB (1855-1931) visited a "cousin" in Farnham, Sussex in 1907.

I believe this cousin was Sarah MAY (nee MILLETT) (1843-1907), daughter of John and Sarah MILLETT, who died in Farnham in Q4 1907.

Although we have extensive information regarding the GRUBB family in Australia we have little or no information of this GRUBB family in England.

A member of the MILLETT family used to be contact with the , now defunct, Grubb Family Association however I believe that this person may be now deceased.

Any information greatly appreciated and happy to freely share an information re our GRUBB family in Australia.

Hello peterd

Yes this is the family.

In 1851, John is a Licensed Victualler/Inn Keeper residing in Brunswick St Poplar.
In 1861, John is still an Inn Keeper at the "Crown and Sceptre", Cumberland St, Pancras.

I currently have John and Sarah MILLET's family as follows:

John (1840-1866), Sarah (1843-1907)(m. Henry MAY in 1864) , Henry (1845-1879), Martin (1847-1877), Richard (1849-1883) (m. Caroline POCKETT in 1879 - an interesting family connection), William (1851), Frederick (1853-1889)(m. Annie DEWAR in 1879) and Minnie (1856-19386)(m. James TEMPLER in 1878).

It is probable that Sarah MILLETT d. Q2 1868 Islington as I have been unable to find her in the 1871 Eng Census.

Thanks grangers14

I have not previously seen the will data which confirms the FeeBMD deaths data for John and Sarah Millett as well as connections to Martin and Sarah May.

I have been in touch with Tony Millett who confirms that he has not been in touch with Milletts in the UK.

Hence my reasons for posting in this forum.
