There are a couple here : http://www.staffordshirebmd.org.uk/cgi/marrind.cgi

You might need to get a birth cert for one of the children

Looks like the children might have been born in Quarnford, which is possibly the registration district of Leek or Uttoxeter

There is a possibility for Ann here :

http://www.staffordshirebmd.org.uk/cgi/birthind.cgi

and a possibility for Sarah here :

http://www.staffordshirebmd.org.uk/cgi/birthind.cgi

and a possibility for Samuel here :

Thanks My computer is not letting me see the links but yes they were all born in Quarnford The whole family seem to be from there and not moved very far at all. I know the local parish church there is St Paul's and a lot of my family are buried there so maybe John was married there too? I think you're right that I need a certificate...

This site is really useful Dolly - because some births even give you the mother's maiden name - long before 1911

It's really unusual to find a birth registration before 1911 with a mother'a maiden name. Some of these have that information, because the information has been input by volunteers. Don't lose heart, just send for a birth cert for one of the children telling the register office the names of the parents, then you won't waste your money. You can e mail the local reg office here : [email protected], this is where the registrations from Longnor are kept.

Sorry - don't know why - I just copied the address line.

Dolly, if you find Staffordshire BMD, and look down the births, you should find the ones you need there

The Tel No for Staffordshire register office is 0300 111 8001.
