Freidlewska-Maddock - Marriage

Postby Maths girl » Fri Dec 28, 2012 10:29 pm

This is an update on a previous post -- can anyone help?

I am still trying to help a friend find the marriage of Maria Leah Friedlewska (born approx 1895) and William Humberstone Maddock (born 1888)

The marriage possibly took place in China late 1910's -- 1st child born in China 1920

He was out there as a missionary.

Thanks

Is this the same girl?
http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=iS82 ... CDIQ6AEwAA

"Miss Marie Friedlowska Polish Jewess..."

If so that seems to put marriage 1919ish

(Though it is a multi-volume think so actually date may be earlier, hard to say without full view)

There is this where she is single

Name: Marie Friedlewska
Gender: Female
Age: 24
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1895
Date of Arrival: 22 Aug 1919
Vessel: Melita
Port of Arrival: Quebec
Port of Departure: Liverpool, England
Roll: T-14701

I think we need Mark for this one! It looks as though they married after August 1919 and before the first baby came along? In Canada or China? Or en route? Or is there family info saying that they did marry in China?

PS You might want to edit the title of the post for spelling? Or was her name also spelled like that?

Thank you -- have changed the title -- spelling/typing not my strong point--

It looks as though he might have met her as he was going to China or she followed him and he brought her back with him.

As you say --maybe Mark can spot something else!

I looked closer at this entry and it also says

Country of birth Poland
Race or people Russian Pole
Destination Foochow China

Most of the other transit passengers were heading for China, often Shanghai, or Japan. I don't see any others for Foochow.

Here is a bit of background http://www.lodzjews.org/root/form/de/dz ... /index.asp though it doesn't explain Maria's problems as a girl - that Railway Signal bit says she was persecuted prison to prison as a girl from 17 years until ? which would be from 1912. I suppose on the positive side she had left before WW2.
