I found quite a few postings from yerffej and I attampted to send a pm to yerffej but the message is just sitting in the outbox so I don't think it sent. It seems we both have the same great great grandfather and I have a lot of info that yerffej may be interested in. I have been searching for more information on William Walter Leslie Heighway (my grandmothers brother). My Grandmother came to Australia in aprox 1916 (I have the shipping record somewhere). She worked as a house maid for the saunders family for a while and married Charles Saunders (the youngest son of Robert Saunders).

My Grandmother, Florence May Heighway, born in Shropshire in 1890, migrated to Aus in about 1916, had 3 children (Ronald, Mabel & Doreen). She died in 1935. Her Fathers name was William, mothers name was Martha.

PMs stick in the outbox until collected, they usually get there in the end.

Do you need to know anything about Florence's parents or just her brother?

Florence left London on the 10th June 1914 aboard the Berrima.

She was planning on making Australia her new home which is good as many who came for a short trip n 1914 didn't get home till 1919!!

William Walter enlisted into the Royal Army Service Corps (A.S.C) on the 24th June 1916. Along with a lot of others in the A.S.C, he was discharged on the 22nd February 1918.

He was discharged dues to illness and received the Silver War Badge.

Doesn't look like his war or pension records survived.

Looks like William started in the railways and ended up a clerk with the Ministry Of Labor.

Lived in Liverpool till his death in 1962.

Letitia was born in Kirkdale, Liverpool in 1890.

Father John was from Glamorgan in Wales.

Letitia's mother, Letitia McGrand, was born in Kirkdale as well.

William became a Widower in 1937.

Thanks for all that info Mark, its great.
Yes I would like to know more about Florence's parents.
I found a William Walter Heighway and Martha Heighway in death records on BDM index for sydney. Martha died in 1945 and William died in 1967. I suspect this is them but when did they come out to Australia.
Or is this Florences mother and father or mother and brother? you mentioned he died in Liverpool but I have found other information in yerffej posts that suggests he went to Australia ??? or did I miss read?

Also wondering about my grandmother (Florence), she was on the 1901 census, then came to Australia in 1914. Shouldn't she be on the 1911 census. where was she between 1901 - 1911?

Was her brother only married once? and did they have any kids... I think this is the line where yerffej comes from... I think he was yerffej's grandfather?

Thanks
