ARC TBC Zilpha Lelliott - COMPLETED

Postby SRD » Sat Jul 21, 2012 8:06 am

I have a baptism for a Lilpha Lilliott 11 Dec 1836 in Ashurst Sussex daughter of Henry & Hannah.
She turns up in the family home in 1841 (Zelpah Lelliott aged 4) in Ashurst, Sussex
in 1851 (Zalphar Lelliott aged 14) in Ashurst Sussex
and in 1861 (Zilpha Lelliott aged 22) in Ashurst Sussex.
Then she vanishes. Can anyone find her for me please?

She shouldn't be confused with the daughter of Peter & Elizabeth who keeps trying to get into the picture but I suspect married in Brighton in 1855.

Thanks, I had seen that but the birth date matches the other one too. And if that is my one where was she between 1861 & 1917?

According to the Creed Register for the Constance Road Workhouse/Institution, Zelpha Lelliott (cook) admitted herself from address 24 Brimmington Road (presumably in Peckham). In the Discharged or Dead column is "17/8/26 Tooting Bec".

There's a 1931 death registration for a Zelpha Lelliott (age 98) in Wandsworth. Family Search have the burial record below (no image):

England, Surrey Parish Registers, 1536-1992
Name Zelpha Lelliott
Age 98
Death or Burial Date 17 Feb 1931
Death or Burial Place Streatham, Surrey, England
Birth Year (Estimated) 1833

Sorry, I've no idea where your lady is from 1871 to 1911.

Deceased Online have her 1931 burial. You could always order the GRO death cert for more clues.
The LMA hold some Constance Road Workhouse records, as do King's College London Archives: https://kingscollections.org/catalogues ... /10co75-1/

It's a mystery as to why she can't be found in the 1871-1911 census reports. Initially I thought she may have joined a religious order post-1861, but the Workhouse records indicate she was C of E. Perhaps she was in and out of institutions (under her initials). Whoever this lady was, she certainly had good innings!

Is this still a Brickwall, or have you solved it?

Unless otherwise advised this will be moved to the Brickwalls Archived section
within 24 hours.
