Re: Disappearing Judds

One more clue. A witness at my grandfather's wedding in 1915 is shown on the marriage certificate as someone called Emily Dixon, the same Christian name as Emily Judd (nee French). There is the possibility that Emily Judd remarried at some point between 1892 and 1915 but I can't find it..

That's where they disappeared to. The archives!

ARC tbc - Disappearing Judds

I have struggled with this for a couple of years now and would welcome any help My great grandfather was called Walter Richard Judd and I have located him on the 1881 and 1891 census, the last one shows him as a 19 year old living at home and working as a railway porter. The next bit of paper trail ...

Map your name

I don't know whether you've seen this but it shows the concentrations of people with the same surname

Re: The British in India

Hi peterd Thanks for the information and it looks like you found my great grandmother and my great grandfather's Christian name! The date of birth is spot on and her being born in Bengal in India is another positive, I'm convinced this is the right person, I shouldn't think there were many Ann Gills...

peterd wrote:what is the christen name of your gr granparents and were there any witnesses on marriage cert ?

Annie Gill and Andrew Ken[n]eally

There were two witnesses, a James Flaherty and a Henry McPherson.

Good question though. It never occured to me that she had no immediate family as witnesses.

*TBC Archive in 24 hrs* Accuracy of Death records

Isn't it annoying when the paper trail dries up? I have my paternal great grandfather Walter Richard Judd in the 1891 census as a twenty-year-old railway porter living in Soho London. I have him in 1892 when he gets married in August and (cough) again in October of that year when my grandfather was ...

The British in India

A search of the 1901 census places my grandmother in Dover along with three older siblings plus her mother and father. I don't know how long they were living at this address at the time of the census. Place of birth for all the family is shown as India apart from my great grandfather who was born in...
