Former libel suits?
I am currently doing a bit of research on the famous English painter, William Powell Frith (19.1.1829 - 9.11.1909) and somebody in Ancestry.co.uk mentioned that "around 1856" he was in a libel suit against Ruskin and James Whistler was also involved. I'm not sure if this is correct but I'm...

Re: Seems a bit odd!
Hi Snoopy That's good to hear. By the way that forum used to be called "DIS-Danmark" but it got hacked to death by spammers. It's still there but no more new posts. The "slaeg" one I mentioned is its replacement. There are other useful sections of "slaeg" which might he...

Re: Seems a bit odd!
Hi Snoopy
Can't remember if I've already suggested to you - but have you tried http://www.slaegtogdata.dk ? It's an excellent site with an English speaking section in there for those who wish to search their Danish roots but don't speak Danish.
Good luck!
mvh

Re: Chislehust cemetery look up?
Hello - I thought I'd just let you all know. Together with the help of a kind colleague I, yesterday, visited my grandfather's grave in beautiful Chislehurst. The cemetery being 12.5 acres took quite a bit of trekking before I found the grave (grandparents together) in the pouring rain. At least I t...

Re: Chislehust cemetery look up?
Many thanks for the PM with the helpful information!
I'm afraid I'll have to open up my piggy bank for said fee.
Will 720 x 5p coins do?

Chislehurst cemetery
Whilst we're experiencing this lovely weather I thought I'd take a flying visit to my grandfather's grave in Chislehurst and take photos of his tombstone. Only prob is I'm nlot sure how to get there by train! (I don't have a car). I last went there when I was a teenager so my memory of this place is...

Re: LDS Historical records
It certainly does look good and useful.
However it does'nt list the Danish entries. Maybe it's because it's only the Beta version and still to be added on later possibly due to the unusual spellings in that language taking longer to type down?
Ah well, wait and see!

*Archive* Chislehust cemetery look up?
My grandfather is buried there. I visited his grave many, many years ago but can't remember exactly where the plot is located. I dearly would like to re-visit soon but need to know the plot location to enable this. I tried Bromley (Kent) County Council a while back but they charge £36.00 per sear...

Re: Rather not know?
I'm not sure at the moment if he had any children because it's all in Danish and takes a while to translate (feel guilty asking others to translate for me too often...) But I presume he did as he was a lawyer and ran a successful law firm which is still there to this day albeit under a different nam...

Re: Rather not know?
I've just discovered, to my shock, one of my "twice removed" ancesters in Denmark was shot by the Nazis outside his home in 1944.
Bit of surprise that but, at least, he was already a widower so his wife would not have suffered any ordeal at the time.......

Rather not know?
Sorry if this has been brought up before - just can't see it..... Just wondering if any of you, during your family hunting, have uncovered facts you wish you had not discovered and rather would have preferred to have left the stone unturned? I think I might be in such a situation right now. Evidence...

Re: BMD in Oz?
Hi Mark Thanks for your kind offer I think he died after 1985...something like 15 years ago? On that basis, are you still able to help? Do you still need his name (he would be my uncle)? Actually I was in Melbourne myself in 2005 for the Deaflympics (then travelled the entire country for a wonderful...

BMD in Oz?
I've never asked this before. My deceased mother had a brother who emigrated to Melbourne and worked on the trams there. I know he's now deceased but understand (from another post here) that the Aussies put the children's names on their death certs. Just thought this might be a way to contact my pos...
