Re: Guinne / Guinnet / Guinney – am I flogging a dead horse?

Is this Joseph ? Name Josh Guiney Birth Date 1843 Father Hugh Guiney Mother Sarah McDennell This could be my Joseph Guinne b.1843, Father Hugh but, whereas I can see the possibility of someone being Christened as Joseph later calling themselves Josh, I wonder how likely it would be that someone Chr...

Re: Census Records

Hi Jimmy . . . Jospeh and Mary's child Robert (b.1882) is my grandfather who I never met (he died in 1931 (droped dead in front of my father when he was 7 years old)).

Re: Census Records

Hi Jimmy Re: Mary Jane McGill 19. Lodger. wool damper. . . . yes that is the girl Joseph married in 1869. As they both seem to appear from nowhewre and appear alone it is looking like these two, as young people, made the trip over here without their parents. That is difficult to get my 21stC head ar...

Hi Jimmy, Thanks for the offer of help. Joseph Guinne b.1843 Ireland, married Mary Jane Magill on 26th June 1869 giving their address as Mulliner Street, Little Bolton, Lanchashire. The marriage certificate states that his father's name was Hugh Guinne and was deceased. To better identify Joseph Gui...

Census Records

I presume, after searching (google) that there is no FREE access to the 1861 census? I can also see the offer of 'free' trial on some pay sites (free then £70!!!). The thing that concerns me is that these sites come up with half a dozen likely hits but want money to see them and I suspect that I wil...

Re: Guinne / Guinnet / Guinney – am I flogging a dead horse?

Thanks Gardner for the helpful post. I've done a bit more digging and found some census info. The thing that strikes me most (and I presume I am not alone) is the poverty and hardship they endured. I don't know if it is particularly peculiar to Irish immigrants but the three generations before my fa...

Re: Guinne / Guinnet / Guinney – am I flogging a dead horse?

Jimmy, Thanks for the helpful info . . . yesterday I did some (google) searching of info in Ireland and I may be wrong but I got the impression that anying earlier than 1900 was 'difficult'.

Re: Guinne / Guinnet / Guinney – am I flogging a dead horse?

Additional information I have for anyone who is inclined to help me is? I (easily) got a copy of Robert Guinne’s birth certificate from the UK GRO which shows that he was born in Salford in September 1882 and that his father was Joseph Guinne and mother was Mary Magill. Joseph and Mary’s marriage ce...

Re: Ancestry / Family Tree Maker / MacKiev

On 30th October 2023 I paid for an upgrade to my earlier version of FTM and received the codes to download and activate FTM 2019. Today I received an email asking me if I would like to buy FTM 2024. Does my purchase made just over 3 months ago not entitle me to free upgrades in the first year of pur...
