Re: Charles William Witted 1811-(1873?)

Just curious: what makes you think he died c1873? Is he still in the 1871 census? What is the last sighting you have for him?

Re: Denton (William Senior)

also saw that Charles DENTON was a young lad when he married - born 1777 in Sheffield, it made him approx 16 years of age when he married Elizabeth SEYNOR on 11/8/1793 in Sheffield. I note that Charles Denton's baptism date is 29 May 1777 (according to the 1820 Settlers website). It should be remem...

Re: Denton (William Senior)

Hi Johan, Wm. son of Eliz. SENYOR, Spinster, was baptised 16 December 1792 in the parish of Sheffield. Death Notice (Cape Archives) suggests he was born in Sheffield in November 1792. m It's very likely that WSD simply took his step-father's surname of "Denton" after his mother's 1793 marr...

Re: Denton birth and parents - assistance please

Update: There is a website on Internet which mentions the Denton family. It indicates that Arthur Wellington Denton is, indeed, the son of William Wellington Denton. However, it does not list a DoB for AWD. Possibly because the birth records are not online. Arthur is one of 12 children born to WWD a...

Re: Denton birth and parents - assistance please

Hi Johan, On Family Search, there are three 29 Sept 1890 marriage records (with images) for a William Wellington DENTON (born 1863) to Anna Maria Davina LOUW (born 1869). Marriage location: Rustenburg, Transvaal, South Africa. The record images are in Dutch, though. So I'm unable to read them for ad...

Re: Thomas and Mary Manger extra son

Could young James be a nephew of Mary Manger? Was Mary's maiden name was Brettle? There was a James BRETTLE born in 1845 (Dudley Union) with a MMN of TIBBETTS. Possible parents: Thomas BRETTLE and Elizabeth TIBBETS. In 1851, Elizabeth and her other children are residing in Rowley Regis. In 1871, the...

As per your Subject line, did you want both the 1901 and 1911 census? (Scotland's People will have the 1911 census) Ancestry has the 1901 transcription (no image): ADDRESS: 1 Franklin Street, Bridgeton, Glasgow James Scott (born 1874 Maybole, Ayrshire, shoemaker) Ellen Scott (born 1862 Leith, Edinbu...

Re: Native Place v. birth place

...my question is does Native Place refer to where he was born or does it just refer to where he was living at the time of his crime? Have you checked for his 1846 trial proceedings on the Old Bailey Online database? m If it's on there, it might mention that his "Native Place" address (Wa...

  What a pity the birth cert lacks an actual address. One wonders if Richard L T Hill knew of the birth, considering several of his children were born in the area.
It's like returning to the scene of the crime.

Don't buy FMP credits just yet. I have a 90-day sub which is going to expire this month. I'm very happy to email you the FMP images for 1837 and 1849 wills, etc. Just PM me your email address and I'll send the FMP images to you. The 1849 will is so interesting! And very legible.

Re: Help with occupation of Exciseman

Hello - actually my grandfather died when I was 2 years old. But my granny mentioned that his MoS offices were at Somerset House during the war. Not sure if those spacious apartments existed by then. My grandfather lived in Kent and commuted to London at the time. He also worked in the War Office. (...

Re: Help with occupation of Exciseman

So Thomas Hill, snr (gentleman of Drayton Bassett) was the former agent to the Right Honourable Sir Robert Peel, Bart. :o This is confirmed in Hill's 1848 newspaper death notice. Prominent family indeed!
