Contemplating research again- advice please

Hello once again, I'm returning to dip my toe in the water and hopefully pick some brains. I'm down in Dorset but thinking of doing some professional family history research again. I'm out of touch with it all and was wondering a few things. Do people stil use professional researchers much or is nea...

ARC TBC..Jane Hall, London Bow Bells 1891, 1901, 1911

Hi , Wondered if any of you good people could do a look up for a friend of mine ( a lady I look after) . I'm trying to find her mother whose maiden name was Jane Hall. Friend one of the younger children and born in 1921 so her mum was probably born around 1890 give or take a decade! Other known sibl...

Re: Joseph Bate Blackheath Early 20th century

Hi, an update especially for Northern Lass. Had a lovely visit today from Joseph and his daughter, and fortunately my Dad was as good as he gets when they arrived. Dad and his cousin haven't seen each other since my grandmother's funeral in the mid 60s I think and they both said they didn't recognis...

Re: Joseph Bate Blackheath Early 20th century

An update for you - many thanks to NL, I have just had a chat with the long (not so lost LOL) Jospeh Bate and lovely to hear the Black Country accent. He reminded me that we share not only the Bate line but also the Tooth line as his Dad was my Dad's Dad's brother and his mum was my Dad's mother's s...

Hi Northern Lass and Jimmy Thanks for all your efforts. Rewinding for now to your question about the wedding photo NL, I've dug out the original and starting with the top row and working clockwise the labels are Eislene Tibbetts, Joan Rose nee Bate who is Dad's cousin, Dad's aunty Lena, Stan Roberts...

Re: Joseph Bate Blackheath Early 20th century

Hi Northern Lass- you are a star- yes both those you have just said are correct- I remember them now you have prompted me- I said to Dad wasn't one of them a Crowe and he looked blank- makes me very glad I extracted all the original information out of him a few years ago. Batty- yes I remember that ...

Re: Joseph Bate Blackheath Early 20th century

Ah lovely- thanks very much Mallosa and Grangers, yes they are all the right details- I recognise the family names- Reg is my Dad. I can identify a lot with Selina right now- unpaid domestic duties and she was definately the family carer as on lots of death certificates. Can't think what Joan's occ ...

Re: Joseph Bate Blackheath Early 20th century

Thank you very much Mallosa and also Jan who posted info. That rings bells- Joseph and Rita from many years ago. Not sure I head Rita in the family tree or if Jan got that from other sources. Many thanks.
Any other references very welcome

ARC TBC Joseph Bate Blackheath Early 20th century

Hi old friends and new, long time no see but dementia care has taken over my life. Dad has started calling out Joseph every time he wants anything and this was his big cousin. I believe he was son of another Joseph Bate and lived in the Blackheath area (probably with Grandad in the early day- John T...

Re: Sounding out an idea

Hi Gardener
Thanks- that's an interesting idea doing shorter articles for local papers and such. It is such a large journal it would take hours-no months to transcribe solo
Nothing will be happening any time soon as full time carer but planning a few projects for the future.
