Lookup request please : Migration Lists
Good morning all, I will appreciate it if someone with access to FindMyPast can help. I am in South Africa and interested in the Longland folks that emigrated from UK to South Africa. Saw a record on FamilySearch in which I have an interest. Details from FamilySearch are : The record I am interested...

Re: Denton (William Senior)
Morning Hillhurst, Wow thanks for the mouthful of info - that is plenty to chew on Thanks for the reminder of baptism date and birth of year. It is correct - no doubt or arguing about it - I am sometimes guilty (like in this case) of forgetting the important difference. But on this topic thanks for ...

Re: Denton (William Senior)
Hi Hillhurst, Once again many thanks for all the feedback and extra info. I did get a document written by Sue Mackay with much of the info you mentioned. But the whole issue wrt illegitimate children and the use of a new surname, was not that clear to me. You however clarified it excellently ("...

Denton (William Senior)
Morning all I will appreciate your valued opinions please. Interested in William Senior DENTON. I have it that Elizabeth SENYOR (*1774 Sheffield, Yorkshire) had a son who was baptised on 16/12/1792 in St Peter Cathedral, Sheffield, Yorkshire. It seems he was baptised as William SENYOR and it is not ...

Re: Denton birth and parents - assistance please
Afternoon Hillhurst, You are a real star !!!!! Thanks for the feedback and all the info. The fact that WWD was a farmer in the Brits area, is a real strong and nice link, as Arthur Wellington also earned his living in the Brits area. I think after doing a search with "Gurgle" using WWD, I ...

Re: Parents of Albert Edward LONGLAND
Lots of sips will do Reasons: 1. Went further and tried to find the parents of William and then his parents and then his grandparents etc. Going on freereg I have traced back a few generations back to 1705 and none of these people are in my tree - even though I acknowledge my England part of the tre...

Re: Parents of Albert Edward LONGLAND
Gardener and BC Wench, Many, many thanks for the info. I really appreciate it greatly. I will go and "chew" on this info and mix and match with my tree. My quick initial feeling going on names, is that he is at least not linked to a brother or sister of John Spencer Longland who emigrated ...

Parents of Albert Edward LONGLAND
Morning all, I will appreciate some assistance please. Living in SA and doing research on the LONGLAND name. Every now and again have to "return to roots" in England. Not having to do it that often, I am not subscribed user to the paid sites in UK - the exchange rate will kill me I know Wi...

Re: Longland birth without name
I would think even though not impossible, I think "highly unlikely or probably not". A death certificate or death notice of a Peter Grieve is needed to confirm that. Changing from Grieve to Greeve or Grieves - yes. But why from Grieve to LONGLAND and also the name from Peter to Andrew? Not...

Re: Longland birth without name
Thanks Grangers14 for the link. The coincidences between Peter Grieve as husband, Eva Elizabeth Rhoda as wife and child Jenetta Sophia Grieve vs Andrew LONGLAND as husband, Eva Elizabeth LONGLAND (nee Rhoda ) and (probable child) Janetta LONGLAND is just "too good to be true". Just trying ...

Re: Longland birth without name
Thanks Gardener - at least it then makes sense that I could not find the record on FamilySearch. Yes according to my research there were many LONGLAND folks from Yardley Hastings area. Being from SA, I actually had to do some geography to understand possibilities ito births and baptisms. For example...

Re: Longland birth without name
Affternoon all, Thanks for info Gardener and yes Grangers14 - the link does work. Gardener if I may ask, what names/info did you use in FamilySearch to search for the marriage of Eva Elizabeth. I have tried a search with Name = Eva Elizabeth Surname = Rhoda Marriage year = 1891 Place = South Africa ...

Re: Longland birth without name
Couldn't find the marriage on FamilySearch you are referring to? But as you said, parents' names are typically not written. As we all know FamlySearch is a "dynamic ever evolving" site with info continuously being added. With my initial posting on another thread where I was looking for inf...
